A big black ant and a weevil on a sunflower. Still testing/tweaking my diy flash diffuser..I think it's doing a good job...I've just got some more tweaking to do.

I think....carpenter ant...???

Yes it's a carpenter ant, but not the worst type (just a worker I think).
Perhaps I should share this information.
I photographed a gigantic one with wings plugged 2 weeks ago (attached) and compulsively checking ID from the web, it was a female looking for a good nest location, and can stay for 15-20 years.
Hope you don't see one of these!

First, lovely captures. The ant shows the flash diffusion is working well.

If the ant was singing "Goodbye to love" then it may be a carpenter ant...
