2012 KSHAA State Track Meet (Kansas)

The KSHAA association largest event is the Kansas State track and field championships. The event is held annually at Cessna Stadium located on the campus of Wichita State University. The meet features athletes from schools in all six classes and is one of the nation's largest high school meets, with more than 3,300 athletes participating. The officials do a tremendous job running this event and watching them interact with the athletes is definitely a treat. C&C welcome.

One of our POTN members daughters appears in a couple of these images. Anyone care to guess the athletes number and who the POTN member the athlete belongs too?

That was too easy - #1567 is Phil Z's daughter.

I'm not an internet stalker, but Sports Photos and Phil Z are synonymous! Throw Kansas into the equation and it was too easy.

Great work, I really like the capture in #6 but the background sucks unfortunately (something I'm all too familiar with...)

Great shots. I was there too shooting for a small paper in Central Kansas. The activities association has running that meet down to a science, well except for the PA announcer's mic that kept cutting out.

#7 is magical for me....

Great set, for me the pick of the bunch is the javelin thrower, top class.

3300 athletes? Does everyone qualify for state?
Our state meet has 9 per event, Finals only.

This is normally the Friday and Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. The Kansas State Track Meet has a great history which includes Glen Cunningham and Jim Ryun. At the 100th running of the event, previous winners (about 550 total) going back to the 1940s came back and awarded the medals to contestants. There were some extremely cool moments where a Dad winner from the 1960's and his son who was also a winner of the same event in the 1980s awarded the medals to the new champion in that event. Mom and daughter combos were common as well. Awesome.
