Hello all,
I've been using off camera flashes (vivitar 285h) for the past 2 years for indoor glamour photo-shoots, I use triggers and for the most part they have worked very well. Every once in a while I have one of the 285Hv's that I use to light up the backdrop fail. I bought 2 ac sockets to see if I could replace the back 285Hv's with 2 ac sockets with CFL. http://www.amazon.com …ef=oh_details_o03_s00_i00 (external link)
The idea is to have one 285Hv mounted on a beauty dish for the main light, a 285Hv with an umbrella as a fill light and a 3rd 285Hv as a hair light and the ac sockets with CFL to light up the white backdrop.

my question is this, what is the best CFL for this purpose? I am not sure if the two types of light might make my setup difficult.

Any assistance is appreciated.

If you wan to make a white background, you are going to need more power than the flashes you are using as your main and fill, so the CFL bulbs will be useless. You will also probably run in to trouble with color balance. If you were going to use the CFL for anything, I would suggest that you use them as your hair lights, and use a flash for the background.

Unless you are buying dedicated photo CFL's the answer may well be none. You will have color issues, and they arent bright enough to compete with your flashes unless you have a lot of them.

Even with hotshoe based flash units, the output of the flash units will far outpace the output of any CFL lights. The CFL lights will be of no value.

Enjoy! Lon
