So I borrowed a Canon 5Dc from a friend for a backup camera. I ended up using the camera to take several pictures. When I came home to copy the images over to my computer, I noticed that there is some distortion on the long side of the image. I looked through all the photos I took with the camera and a good majority of them had it. What happened. The distortion is both in the RAW and JPG file.

The specifics

5Dc
70-200 IS f2.8 mk2
580ex II flash
Aperture Priority
f2.8 1/125
ISO800

1st image is the overall image
2nd image is a 100% crop of the hi-res file

Did you use anything to trigger the flash other then mounting it on the camera?

Could be some sort of radio interference.

Does he have the same issue without using the flash? If he does then its probably the sensor going bad.

I believe it means the sensor is going bad.

RF interference from either the flash or the wireless audio being used...

Known issue with the 5Dc.

Actually yes sir. I had the 580ex II on top and a trigger connected to the pc port of the camera. I did have 2 speedlites in the corners of the room to help with ambient lighting as it was a very large room. I used some cheap ebay triggers to fire them. I wasn't concerned with reliability of the flashes firing every single time. This is the first time i've done something like that and figured I was going to play around with it on the backup camera. I still have the camera with me so maybe i'll try with and without the trigger to see if I can narrow down the problem

Wow. never new that. now, i'm feeling a bit better that the camera itself is probably still fine. The triggers used are quite old. Cactus V2s that I had laying around for years. Usually I use the 580EX II to control the speedlite but the room was too large for me to get the other speedlites to fire with consistency. During my brief testing in the room, I had more success rate using the ebay triggers so figured i'd try it. Guess that was a bad idea as majority of the images have that distortion so now depending on how I shot the image, I may not be able to crop it out.

Is there any fix other than just not using the triggers.

Cactus Triggers? Yup, that's your RF source...
