Over the last year or so, i've been slowly teaching my Nephew (Harry) to take Motorsport photos. He's completely car-mad and kept asking if he could have a go with one of my cameras so i let him loose with my old 1DMKIIN and more recently, the 7D...

1. From last year's Oulton Park Gold Cup..

2. Last year's Dukeries Rally and his first taste of WRC Cars. The look on his face was priceless!

3. Shot through a fence at last year's British Touring Car Championship meeting at Silverstone.

4. The obligatory MK2 Escort.

5. Something wider..

6. I take him out in all sorts of weather and he doesn't complain.

I haven't gone into any depth about settings and the like just yet as i want him to get the hang of framing shots first...which it appears he has done!. So this year i'll be teaching him the joys of shutter speeds, aperture settings & ISO values rather than just setting the camera at 1/320th, f8 + Auto ISO for him.

We have the BTCC meetings at Oulton Park & Croft coming up, so i shall ensure he doesn't waste his time taking pictures of Grid Girls, because that's my job!

Soon you'll be able to retire, but don't worry,... he'll need someone to drive him to the races and carry his equipment.

I think an early Christmas present from Uncle Geoff is in order here. :)

Shampoo sounds like an unfortunate name for a hair product.
You're a ghost driving a meat-coated skeleton made from stardust, riding a rock, hurtling through space. Fear Nothing!

Once i've got him processing his own shots i'll point him this way...he needs to get his exams out of the way first though.

That's his favourite BTCC car. We're off to Oulton Park next weekend so no doubt he'll get more shots of the Audi..

Nice shots

I started out with an AE1-P and a 50mm f1.8. He has no idea how lucky he is!

He's already decided he wants his own camera. I think a decent used 40 / 50D will be his at Christmas. Family discussions are already under way..

your 120-400 will be ideal. You can work around the circuit all day with that lens on (other than paddock shots)...he uses my 100-400L most of the time apart from Rallies where he uses my old Sigma 70-200 2.8

I'll post some more up in a few weeks' time after we've done the Touring Car races at Oulton Park & Croft.
