Two more......

Here you see Ron Capps making a record setting fastest ever pass in a Funny Car. This gives him the fastest time ever recorded and only the second time anyone has broken the 4 second mark

All great shots. Is there a technique for panning cars moving in excess of 200mph? My last attempt netted horrible results because they passed the lens much too quickly for me to get any meaningful shots.

Yours, OTOH, are fantastic! Exactly what I was looking for...and DIDN'T get!

Nice pans with the candles lit......and pic 2 is cool as well. Unfortunate that you probably had 20+ minutes of idle time immediately after though.

Do you have NHRA credentials or were these from the grandstands? We're these with the 100-400?

No credentials although it is a dream of mine to get over the wall one day (hint, hint, for anyone that might have some pull). I've done some events from down on the track but when the NHRA rolls into town I'm not allowed down there. :( All of my racing action shots you see here were taken with 1D MKIII and 70-200 2.8 from the stands.

For what it's worth, you can't get those mid track pan shots from down where the credentialed folks shoot.

But I'd love to be able to sit at the wall at the far end and shoot down track :-)

Amazing shots!

Been following all the 70-200 threads where the question is to go IS or non IS or even go f4 IS or the cheaper f4 non IS. After seeing these, I think I can say that for what I would get the lens for, the non IS 2.8 seems like a winner.

I love the one of the kid. I LOL at that one... And why does Massey remind me of Kyle Bush? I cannot be a fan of his now.

I'm really shocked they came out so good. Usually the force of those things going by shakes everything pretty bad. I used to go to Norwalk Raceway when the fence was 6' from the track. Standing against the fence at a FC or TF would go by was one of the biggest rushes ever. (and then you had to clean the rubber off yourself.)

Mike I hope I didn't give you the wrong impression. My 70-200 2.8 is IS
