Before editing, I had a little coaching on the second image. It's my first Photoshop work and first time to try Urbex. I'm hoping for some C&C.

I know the last image is very over-cooked. But I was trying to get sort-of Phantasmagoria or Silent Hill kind of look. It's still a little iffy to me but I was hoping I at least got the theme across.

Thank you very much.

I bumped up the contrast really high for the shadows. I was hoping to make it look a little bit unreal but not too much. Something a bit like Phantasmagoria or the earlier Resident Evil games (forget the film).
Definitions? You mean the titling? Sorry about that. I guess I ran out of good ones.

Details. Sometimes you add so much contrast that everything bleeds into each other.

Could you please pin-point a specific area where this problem shows a lot? I've been staring at the large-sized versions, zooming in and out but I can not see it. I also googled "contrast cause details bleed to each other" and I could only find something about video problems but too technical for me to understand. It's my first time to hear about this and I'm keen to learn more. Please?

Basically you push the contrast right up, then anything that is close to black will become completely black. You lose any details as any difference in tone in the shadows becomes completely black.

Likewise with the highlight. Imagine some bright sky with white clouds where you can still make out the clouds in the sky but only just. If you push the contrast up then the sky will just go completey white. No details/definition in that part of the image.

Oh yes, I get it now. The highlights gave me that problem especially on the last image. But I thought making black-ish parts absolutely black helps. Like those horror movies where scenes are annoyingly too dark but effective to add more tension and suspense to the audience.

Thank you for this. I really thought it helped but I should reconsider the way I see things next time.

Thanks, you explained it better than I!:D

Agree with Flo on these.

I would move in the other direction and make them a bit more wispy looking to get a surreal feel.
