While walking a trail with a buddy, a Catbird came up right in front of us...no warning or territorial vocalization which I found odd. After a few shots it ( female) dropped off the log into the underbrush but seconds later another pops up and this was the male...again not a sound so I expect we surprised them near their nest. I took a few shots of the second bird and we moved on...

The first shot here is the male...its full frame and I had to add a bit of canvas on top to give it more room.....the second and third images are of the female.

Those are fantastic Gary, I have always wondered how to tell the difference, is it the red patch on the bottom? I have a threesome here, two of them fight quite a bit but their little singing is just beautiful, they have so many different songs.
Excellent as usual, Well done.

Excellent shots Gary, especially the second image! The Catbird is a nemesis bird for me.

Superb shots Gary, I love how the you worked out the lighting here, the catbirds were exposed nicely and a bit darker background, sharpness and details were properly preserved. Not an easy thing to do. Congrats!

... does it really matter?i see with my eyes, i shoot with my fingers.

Beautiful shots Gary, with super detail.

We've not seen a Catbird here in 4yrs... sure would love an opportunity for some shots like these!

Very nice processing work too.

Excellent as usual, Well done.

Many thanks and I am presuming the braver of the two was the male as they are the more aggressive defenders, Both sexes are similarly colored and the song is the only real indicater ... I have read that only the males sing,,,but neither one of these made a sound -?

Here is another shot of the species but this one was about 20 miles East and singing his heart out:D

A big thanks also to Kenn, Stephen, Graham, Joe, Lester, Acajun, Gabby, Sharon, Flo, Trish, TxCanon, and Al....
