I decided to go this local airshow since it's minutes from my house and they do a good job at putting on a good show. I typically like jets...but decided to try my panning skills with the old vintage props. I shot the majority at 1/80 and came away with some decent results. The fastest i shot was 1/160. These were all taken handheld with the Canon 5D MK II and the 100-400mm lens. I believe all of them were at 400mm as well. C&C much appreciated :)

Nice! Handheld at that shutter speed and those look great. Love the panning. With shutter speed that slow, what was your keeper rate?

Great shots and panning skills!, I take it that the Firefly is the plane that had it's gear collapse?
Good to hear pilot was ok and the bird wasn't damaged too bad.

This is an excellent set of images! Blue skies, too. What more could a guy want? ;)

Thanks for the great comments everyone. I was there on Saturday so i didn't learn that a plane had a problem with the landing gear until someone on my FB asked me. Glad to see he made it out ok. The keeper rates on these was around 40%...some of the shots where the planes were landing or taking off i tried at 1/40 so as you can imagine...only was able to keep a handful of those.

Made the mistake of trying to shoot 1/40 and 1/50 last weekend. Boy do I suck at panning! :)
