I'm trying to figure out whether I should calibrate and profile my monitor to L* gamma or 2.2. What do you have it set at?

I wouldn't use L* unless I had a high end monitor (like a LaCie) with a 12 bit LUT. Consumer level monitors have usually been optimized for G2.2 and on an 8 bit LUT trying to do L* will cause lost levels due to quantization errors.

Hmm... I am currently using the HP ZR24w. I guess I should use 2.2 gamma then since it is 8 bit?

You could try both and see which one gives you a better shadow rendition compared to your prints....

I'll probably do that. I just recalibrated to 2.2 anyways and I like the look better (surfing the web). For some reason, black was less "black" under L*. Guess it's all about the print though.
