I have read a lot in this forum regarding this lens.
Thought it might be intersting too know - that here i Norway only a few shops now are selling this lens ? Why ? Because they had so many complaints about it used on Canon 20d.
I asked one of the shopowners - and he told me that its very sad it has been so - because - he said the Sigma 24-70mm 2,8 EX DG Macro is a very good lens. But - it has got so bad reputation that he felt he was not taken seriously as long as he had it for sale.
In norway we have between 20 and 25 serious netshops ( like B&H i NY ) that sold the ,ens - now only 4 is left selling it.

It's a shame as the Sigma is a great lens, especially the new models.

Nilsen, I have the 24-70 and so far I am happy with its performance. Well, maybe I'm just a noob who doesn't know any better ;-)a So far (touch wood) I've not had any problems with the lens.

My take on this is that negatives get highlighted so much out of proportion that people tend to make it the rule rather than an exception... Ever notice a dazzling white wall with a fly on it? People are normally drawn toward the fly, and tend to forget that they have an immacualtely white wall in front of them.

My 2 cents for the day. Have a fantastic weekend.

John;)

I'm a huge fan of the Sigma EX line. I've got the 70-200mm EX and a 24-60mm EX. Both are tack on with "L" IMO

Did buy a Canon 100mm Macro USM for close-up stuff and portrait. Performance/sharpness it should of had a red ring but hey who's complaning ;)

Optically, the Sigma is a good lens. I can't see the diff between shots taken with Sigma vs Canon 24-70.

That said, mechanically, the Sigma is no match for Canon 24-70. My copy felt loose after 6 or so month (point the lens downward and the zoom ring turns by itself to 24mm). And, after travelling in dusty areas, the Sigma is picking up dust inside.

If you shoot in clean areas, I'd say the Sigma beats Canon for value. But if you do a lot of travelling on horseback or open vehicles, get the Canon.
