Some of those are interesting and—especially after being "framed" by media—can be quite powerful.

I have not seen many of these photos before. I noticed a few required reading of the text below it before an emotional connection could be made. Others required no words. There is a lesson in that. One I strive to understand, but find difficult to put into practice.

Thanks for the link.

While there are certainly some that qualify and are excellent photos that are very emotional, I don't believe they all fall within 40 of the most powerful photos.

I agree, one photo I felt sure would be in there, the one of Kim Phuc running away from a napalm attack in Vietnam, with her clothes burned off and herself critically injured is one of the most powerful photos I can think of, but wasn't included.

Absolutely!!

For me, this is one of the most powerful images I've seen.

There is also a photo , similar to Tank Man, of Australian cameraman Neil Davis standing in front of a NVA tank just after it crashed through the gates of the Presidential Palace in Saigon. I haven't been able to locate this photo anywhere.

Powerful is subjective and when making lists like this, there are always things that will be left out that some think should be present. It's a good list.

+1

I can think of several photos that weren't anywhere to be found in that collection that are way more powerful.

At the beginning of time there was absolutely nothing. And then it exploded! Terry Pratchett
