I'm trying expand beyond my landscape photography and try portraits, so I hunted around for victims... uh models. :)

This guy asked if I would do headshots for him, and I was nervous having never done them before. Please let me know what you think, and yes I know a couple aren't truly headshots.

I like 1 and 4. 2 is over exposed and too centered. 3 has a very distracting background and 5 loses impact.Nevertheless for a first attempt, they show promise.

Take a critical look at the victim through a full 180 degrees before shooting him. Have him start at a full profile to one side and slowly turn to a profile on the other side. Look at the different views along the way. Does he have a "good" side? Does he have something that you might want to take attention away from? Does he have one eye that is larger than the other?

In several of these shots, his left eye appears slightly closed or smaller than his right eye. In this case you might choose to position him with his smaller eye closer to the camera to make it appear slightly larger.

Several could use some fill flash to brighten the face a bit (3/5 especially), but some very light fill could help others, too.

I'm a fan of OOF backgrounds for portraits. 1, 3, and 4 do an excellent job of putting the BG OOF.

Great first portraits.

1D-III with stuff to stick on it:
70-200L, 28-70L, 24-105L, 300L, 50, 10-17 fish, 2.0x TC
Image editing OK, encouraged, and expected. Thank you for helping me learn!
