Is the best way of finding out when they do I assume is to just keep an eye on this forum or can you sign up to something with Canon to be told of new products?

Do they have a regular pattern or is it just random?

They usually introduce new lenses as part of a larger rollout of gear. Their last few have coincided with new DSLRs, although IIRC, not every new DSLR was accompanied by new lenses. 'Course I'm getting vague on whether the 17-85 came out with the 20D or the 350D.

Usually lens announcements happen at PMA and in the big refresh in August, but there's nothing preventing announcements from occuring at any other time of the year, and that includes even this month. Word just reached me that Nikon is introducing two new IS lenses this month (you can inquire as to what they are, and I'll post), so it's not beyond the realm of possibility that Canon could do the same at any time of the year. Personally, I'm hoping to see some new image-stabilized telephoto lenses of any variety (70-200 f/4 L IS, 100-300 f/4 L IS, 400 f/5.6 L IS, etc.).

40D, 17-55, 70-200 4/IS, 60 macro
