Canon Rumors (external link) and CanonPriceWatch (external link) have shown a pic of the 40mm pancake. If it's cheap (as suggested), I see no reason not to have one.

Is the 40mm supposed to be the new normal that is a little wider than normal for a FF and little narrower than normal for a crop?

If this is under $200 and reasonable IQ it's a must have!

This looks good. I wonder if they stole Pentax's design.

Sign me up for on of these pronto! Hopefully they can squeeze one more stop out of it and make it f2.0 like the voigtlander ultron 40mm. And hopefully it has full time manual focus too.

Hard to believe that Canon would sell any lens with a metal mount for less than$200, given their latest prices. One can always hope.

I'd be curious to see how it is optically vs the Voigtlander. I'd like an AF pancake lens, but the IQ better be decent. For street shooters, notice that there is no distance scale. The Voigtlander is small and has a usable distance scale.

That would look so ridiculous on an SLR lol. I don't see much point for a pancake lens for an SLR.

Maybe the upcoming mirrorless camera will be EF mount. That will be pretty cool...

Is there any glass in this thing or is it just air? ;)

I hope it means that Canon is coming out with a mirrorless camera, an EF adapter for it and that this is one of their lenses...
If so, sign me up!

Pardon my ignorance but what is the significance of this lens other than the size?

This was also my first thought, but I could see this tiny lens making a Rebel into a super light travel DSLR. This is also an easy way for Canon to compete size-wise with some of the mirrorless systems already out there.

Exactly. This will look ridiculous on my 5D2 gripped.

Don't see any point of a slow prime on a dslr, if only this is for the upcoming Canon mirrorless, then it's a different story ;)
