Thanks for the confirmation. I was surprised not to have read about it on line but i suppose its just taken for granted.

Different lenses project different big image circle. The pancake obviously have a harder time managing to project a big image circle.

Very strange.
This is the direct link to the image, as you can see, nothing to do with Amazon.

There's a EOS utility upgrade (2.12.0) which included 40 STM's peripheral correction. I updated my 5d3 and the "dark corners" are no longer as apparent.

Hey, thanks for that!

I just installed 2.12.0 and ran a test with and without the Peripheral Illumination Correction. It does make a huge difference! It also effects the metering as you no longer have to compensate for those dark corners.

Im really enjoying my 40mm at the moment, but i am thinking of trading it in for a 35F2. Now that im using my 50mm a lot more I just find 40mm to be too close to it. I think i could also do with a bit more light coming in to the camera in low light.

yes they did but there are a few provisos...

you need a 5D3 or a T4i to do the FW update or send it into Canon...

and, I've read the FW update process can be reeeeeally slow, sometimes requiring a few attempts...

My plan is patience. Once you know how to mainly avoid the 40's issue - it rarely if ever happens. If it does happen, easy fix. Its a quirk, no biggie.

I wish more portrait photographers had samples in these two 40 hotcake threads. On a crop like the 60D/7D - its a FF equivalent of 64mm and I'd like to see some reviews.

I'm fine to do 3/4 or 1/2 length portraits but wonder about tight head-shots and distortions... I certainly see no issues on the nifty-fifty on crop sensors.

I love my 85 1.8 but the 40 offers more breathing room.

Guess i'll test and do some Selfies! ;)

so the firmware fix actually loaded to the lens?not to the camera itself?so it needs other camera to fix the bug on the lens?
