The benefit is it's size, and it's sharpness for it's size.

If you've ever wanted a light and compact setup, then you're missing something.

I like the fact that I can take my 5D3 out with a 70-200 and have the pancake on my 1D3 as pretty much a 50mm focal length.
It's a very good sharp lens and tiny, especially on the 1D3.
If I need something wider or more reach, I just swap them over and have 40mm on the 5D3 and what becomes a 90-260 on the 1D3.
Great little lens for the money.

Well, im happy with mine now. Ive done a lot of pixel peeping (I know, i know) and i can see that its a nice lens. Not in the same class as my 70-200 (obviously) or my 15-85IS but it does seem to be as good, if not better, than my 50mm f/1.4 at f/2.8, so that wide open vs stopped down, pretty good.
Ive never really been happy with my 50mm f/1.4 below f/2.8, especially outdoors so maybe i dont have a stellar copy anyway.
I do find the results from the 40mm a bit variable but more than good enough as a compact travel lens.
Up till now ive been taking my Canon S95 with me to gigs but i think finally its practical to take my 60D.
The big deal for me was to make my camera smaller and for this it worked very well.

I've joined the Flickr group for will upload some shots soon.

Where did you find one? I've been trying to get my hands on one but Gmarket doesn't list it yet.

Home Plus will have them in stock on Saturday!!!!!!!

225k won (or roughly $195 USD/$200 CDN). I'm getting them to call/text me (even though I don't speak Korean haha) the minute it gets in!!!

It may be cheaper on Danawa, but I've heard that with Gmarket (Danawa is somehow connected) sometimes people are on the hook for duties, etc...plus, I'm guessing Danawa/Gmarket are greymarket items...pretty sure buying from Home Plus will carry a full Canon warranty, or at least I can return it if it's DOA. I'm in Korea for a minimum of 8 more months, so that should cover most of the warranty :D

Does anybody uses the 580ex II with the 40mm? Seems that the LCD on the flash will display at 35mm only.

What did you expect to see? The flash can only display 24-28-35-50-70-80-105.

holy cheap!!!! I didn't think it was sooooo cheap. If I'm gonna use a prime I'll stick with my 35L or 24Lmk2 to have more creative control though with capabilities of f/1.4 wideopen.....

Video guys will dig this but for me ......hmmm. Its a 200 dollar consideration.

Do you all think this lens would work great for indoor and night shots at Disney World? I'm hoping it would be good but the 2.8 might hold it back?

I'll definitely get one. It looks thin enough to be able to toss in a small camera bag and close it up with out a lens sticking up. Looks like it will be a fun lens too.
