This thing looks goofy as hell on my gripped 5D3.

I've got a 50mm f/1.8. 35mm f/2, and now a 40mm f/2.8. I'll have to decide on what route I want to go with.

sell them all and get 50 1.4!

But I kind of like the size, or lack thereof, of the 40mm.

Do you also love the slow aperture?

I agree with sell'em all and get a 50 1.4.

Quality > quantity. What's the point of having 3 lenses which are so close in focal length?

Either one is better than all 3 combined imho.

You use a 5D3...it's about time to put some quality glass in front of the beast....sigh

Because it's not like I have other lenses, right? I don't even use wide focal lengths at the same time as needing a large aperture or I would have picked up a 24mm or 35mm f/1.4 already.

The whole point of "which will I be keeping" implied that I would be selling two of the three.

haha...I was reading their replies and kept thinking "wow they missed a lot of points" (ie: that you're only keeping one and, according to your sig, you do have some very nice quality glass to back that body up).

If I were you (in fact, these were my choices as well), I would sell the 50 1.8 (the build/AF are crap on that lens) and the 35 f2...it looks like a nice lens, but I think it's a touch too wide to be a "normal" lens on FF, I hate the bokeh it produces and it doesn't have the size advantage of the Pancake (let's be honest, all of your lenses should serve a purpose...have their own niche, right? Well, the size thing is the Pancake's)

For me, I have 3 lenses: UWA, fast prime (100mm f2) and a telephoto...each serve a distinct purpose. The Pancake will also have its own specialty: being my ultralight/small, sharp walkaround lens.

A couple from tonight.
This is Kings Cross Station. Its recently been redeveloped and this is one of the new additions.
I must say im still very impressed with this lens. These were taken hand held, and i couldn't have got these shots with the 50mm as its too long.

I really do love the way you think. It's the exact same for me.

And no, I wouldn't sell all and get a 50mm f/1.4 unless it's the Sigma 50mm

Thanks, I appreciate it :)

I agree, I wouldn't touch the Canon 50 1.4 with a six-foot pole. Tried two copies, both disappointed. I do like that speed/FL, and like you said if I were to get it, I'd go Sigma. However, I'm in Korea, so dealing with warranty stuff would be an utter pain in the neck, so I'm scared to play the Sigma Lottery.

Those are stunning! I'm really eager to get some cash so I can buy this lens. Great stuff!

Yeah, I'm leaning that way as well. It's too bad the pancake doesn't have a f/2 itself or it'd be perfect. I kept the 50mm around after buying the 35mm solely because it was so cheap even though I rarely used it. Now that I have the 40mm, might be time to finally sell it off.

I only used LR4 on this shot.
First off it was shot with flash, I'm not a lover of indoor natural light shots unless I have to.
In LR I pushed the contrast and Clarity almost right up, highlights down and took the vibrancy down a bit.
It's not natural looking but I felt it fitted this shot.

Cool, thanks for the reply. I have never really messed with Clarity (LR noob) and it really enhances the picture, WOW!

Thanks again.
