Has anyone tried to update the firmware with t3i/600D? Surely Canon doesn't intend to leave other camera owners hanging?

The T3i isn't in the supported cameras list. According to Canon's page (external link):

"Customers who do not own any of the cameras listed above, but wish to have the firmware of their lenses updated, are asked to contact our service centers."

So you aren't left hanging since Canon will reprogram it for you if you like but it isn't really important anyway. I've used mine a lot since June and haven't had a problem yet.

Bought this lens two weeks ago and so far love it and have yet to take it off my camera! Focal range is perfect for the bulk of what I shoot (at times I wouldn't mind it being a little wider but with the price of this vs a 35L I can't complain!) and love the small size and weight. Autofocus so far has been fast and accurate with no issues and very happy with image quality! Out of my lens collection this is probably my favorite for 90% of what I shoot.

I bought the pancake about a month ago and I have had no problems with it. I don't think the issue is that big of a deal. From what I understand it happens when you let the camera go to standby and I rarely shut my 40d off and it has worked flawlessly. Perhaps I have a newer firmware but I doubt it as I bought it locally and lenses don't make it here very fast so I would assume it was from the first firmware.

Love the lens though - worth the money in my opinion.

Apparently there are no fixed versions available yet in Finland so my options are pretty much to buy a lens with the bug or some other lens. How's the 35mm f/2 compared to 40mm? I rather like the pentagonal bokeh to be honest. It looks pretty stylish.

Not true. What is wrong with the option of buying the 40mm as is? A huge number of people already have which should prove to you that this is, in fact, also a valid option.

Not exactly sure what you're referring to, but I bought my pancake two months ago, in Finland. No bugs or flaws so far.

If the third number in the serial is 0,1 or 2 the AF may stop working if pressure is applied to it. It can also happen if you have the lens protector on.

Since i last posted in here i got a 5DMKIII. my Pancake works fine on the new camera but ive noticed that when looking through the VF my eye has to be positioned perfectly in the centre, otherwise i see dark areas at the edges.
Does anyone else with see this? It seems ok on my 60D and all other lenses are fine so im guessing its to do with the amount of curvature on the front element and the full 100% view in the VF.

Guess i should post an image with my new combo. Yes, its a bit over the top but i did this for someone who asked for a very colourful helicopter image.

Dave, I believe you are seeing some vignetting with full frame camera. This is normal with this lens, at least until Canon releases the peripheral correction firmware for it. In the meantime, you'll have to fix it on post if you don't prefer the dark corners (vignette)

I absolutely LOVE this lens...it's insanely sharp, even wide open...I bought it the day they were released for sale in South Korea and I've yet to have any problems with it...I make sure I don't apply pressure to the front element (seems like common sense to me), but I only shut the camera off when changing lenses, cards or batteries...otherwise it's ALWAYS on standby mode...no issues whatsoever :)

Thanks for the reply. The shots are fine, I use LR and that has a lens correction profile for this lens, it's just when I look through the VF and my eye is off centre.
I'm sure the two are directly connected, it's not a big deal but it did throw me when I first experienced it.

With a full-frame camera, a wider angle of the lens is used. So just as when you use binoculars, it matters that you look through center of lens.

With your 60D, the viewfinder only sees the center part of the image projected by the lens, so you don't have this issue.

Thanks for the confirmation. I was surprised not to have read about it on line but i suppose its just taken for granted.
