The black and white shot is definitely a dandelion, but if the color shot is also a dandelion then it has been exposed to nuclear radiation! That sucker is about 4" across and has been to the barber because it's pretty much flat topped.

Thanks for looking, and let me know if you know what the color shot is.

Yellow Goatsbeard... I think. The seeds look kinda like a dandilion but way bigger. The flower is also yellow... but much taller

Well I was going to say "that's Salsify", but I see on wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salsify (external link) that goatsbeard is another name for salsify. Thanks, I didn't know that!

Salsify root is sold in some supermarkets -- it's very very nutritious!

Thank you jkrohn. . .the shot was taken this afternoon, and this evening it's gone. The dandelion however is still there. . .the gift that keeps on giving.

Thanks for the heads up melanopsin, I really do appreciate it, but I think I'll just take your word for the tastiness of the plant.

Its been a while since I took botany but plants are classified by their flowers.
So if plants have similar flowers they are likely related.
Dandelion and Salsify are of the family Compositae.
So is lettuce!
