Hi

I think my sensor is stuffed.

Attached image shows what's happening.

Is there some sort of diagnostic software available where I can test this?

These are SOOC shots? You didn't have some FEC set to some obscene amounts along with high ISO? What were the settings/parameters when you shot these?

All shot on auto mode after a full hard reset. But I get the same results no matter what the settings.

I suspect the sensor may have been damaged by heat.

Did you leave your camera in a sweltering car or something?

Your sensor is toast. It looks like overheat of some sort. I am no expert but if that is SOOC then yes its gone to the great wild yonder :*( Sorry. Smelting metal may have caused it due to bright conditions plus being in a hot environment.

I'm pretty sure it did get that warm.

Remember that the lens has a big nice opening.

By the way - did you use live view or video-film?

The image sensor would normally have a decent protection behind the shutter but great care should always be taken when photographing hot or extremely bright objects.

about USD$300 for a sensor part, plus labour. Might be worth checking your insurance...

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

Probably the intense light from the crucible and not the heat probably did it in. That stinks! I have been wanting to take some pictures during forging of some horse bits, I was going to wait until I could get some welding glass shades and make a holder for it.

I find it hard to imagine how the bright light would have affected the whole readout of the sensor. especially as it would have been focussed on a small area?

Go to live view and focus on some nice foliage during the day, etc. Do you see the pink hue on your LCD all the time? This doesn't look good, it looks similar to how some cameras develop a pink glow in one corner or another at very high ISOs.

Note that the sensor have three color filters for red, green and blue.

They are there to block unwanted wavelengths - if the color filter gets overheated and damaged, you will get a camera that always produces a bad color cast.

Remember that the bright light may be bright - but huge amounts of the radiation was in IR. So not visible. Just stronger than the visible light.
