That looks like a great camera and certainly a good upgrade to the Rebel lineup. The one thing that would of made it excellent would be the inclusion of a better AF system similar to the 5D2 with invisible assist points and all cross points, or similar to the 7D which would of put a nail in the coffin of all other xxxD or xxD bodies. The addition of a pentaprism instead of the pentamirror and the addition of the touchscreen (hopefully as well as a button menu system) which hopefully will be responsive under load will make it a major improvement. I might even have to upgrade the wifes T2i with one.
5D2? It should already perform at least as well, given that it's now getting a carryover AF system from the 40/50D/60D. The 5D2 AF is the same basic system, as far as I'm aware.
Based on the features of this new Rebel, I expect the following (all baseless assumption)
The TXi will remain the high-end Rebel with all the neat gizmos.
There will probably continue to be a TX Rebel to eat up the low-cost market segment.
60D form factor will continue, becoming the 70D or possibly 80D, to avoid potential 7D confusion. It'll have essentially the same specs as the TXi, but in the larger size with twin LCDs.
The new 7D will be a Mk2 and feature the same AF system as the 5D3, and probably not cost all that much less.
Of course, I'm just making this up and talking out of my butt, but it does seem likely that it's the business plan Canon will stick to.
