Is Jeffery Friedl's plugin to upload from LR4 to flickr the only viable solution, or has LR4 finally fixed this?

just a few of my thoughts...

Thought you didn't need a plugin for flickr in lightroom, it already has one so no need for Friedl's plugin

That is the case. I use LR4 quite satisfactorily with the built-in one (so to speak).

LR has a publish service, but at least in the past Friedl's plug-in provided some enhancements/improvements to the built-in functionality. So the question was has LR4's service been "upgraded" to alleviate the need/usefulness for the additional plug-in.

What does the plugin do that the built-in LR one doesn't? Ive been using LR to directly publish to Flickr no problem since LR 2. Never had an issue.

I have not been able to use LR4 to publish to flickr since my upgrade from LR3. I had been to the LR forums and every person who responded said to use Jeffery's plugin.
I tried every which way to work it from LR4 today and could not succeed, so I ordered the plugin and was up and running in less than 5 minutes.
Up until then, I have gone about 3 months without publishing to flickr.

I could not, and still cannot understand how LR/Adobe cannot come up with a resolve for this issue...............

I've been using the LR publish to Flickr for some time with no (at least minimal) problems. It's frustrating sometimes though when it thinks something has changed to the picture, maybe a keyword set up or ? but it wants to republish. On FB you can tell it not to, but with the Flickr service there's no option to leave it as it is

Using LR4.1 and the flickr publish option works fine.

I don't use the flickr plugin in LR4.x. I use their new interface or Uploadr app, I don't know how to crop photos to 1000 px longside constraint inside LR, otherwise I wouldn't use Photoshop for cropping

I still cannot publish via the publishing window in LR4, but the new uploader does work.

I forgot to mention that the issue started when I updated LR4, and had a new computer built for editing my images. No one seems to be able to fix the standard publish issue.
I guess for now I am going to live with the plugin and uploader....

You can edit the settings for the Publish Service easily by right clicking (assuming PC, not sure steps on a MAC) and Edit Settings, you can set all of the parameters as you for exporting JPGs.

In the Setup window for the Flickr publishing service, just do like this:
