Does the conversion work? I seem to struggle with B&W.

did you do anything other than removing the color? as in; play with the contrast or gamma or something?
It just seems a bit flat, soft, and I'm not a fan of the crop.

I played with contrast but not much. I struggle getting the B&W to pop the way I like so I usually shy away from it but really like it.
As for the crop, yes it is off, but I saw a picture with the same theme and really liked it and wanted to try my twist at it.

The composition is kind of weird to me, no offence, but it looks forced somewhat. Also, I hate titles to photos anyways.Just me. I would have liked seeing both of them interact, this view leaves me looking at nothing.:(

Since you asked about conversion not composition I'd say the second one is better. It seems warmer and maybe a higher contrast. How about sharpening - did you do that? If not, then give it a try.

Thanks for the feedback. I do understand the composition is off for most.

Ok. I boosted sharpening and played around with contrast.

I like the concept.

I see a dad bringing his young son in close to teach him something. I wonder what lesson is being taught. Son either did something that he knew he wasn't supposed to do and is being "talked to". Or, son just had a disappointment and he's being consoled as he is learning a life lesson.

Dad is a strong, quiet type who can make more of an impact in shaping son's values with a private whisper than other dads can do with yelling, swearing, or a switch. This is a great shot to celebrate this type of father.

Thanks for sharing!

[Go with #1 or #2, this one doesn't need to "pop", it's a tender moment.]
