Been using LR3 for about 3 months now and am recently starting to notice significant slow downs when navigating from one edited image to the next in the Develop module.

I've increased the RAW cache size to 30GB and optimized my catalog and have seen no difference in performance.

It takes about a good 5-8 seconds for an image to appear on my screen with all the edits (mostly sharpness) that I made to it.

Suggestions?

Well, that would indicate to me that something has been "clogging up" your system, maybe an app you have installed or maybe some "under-ware"...hard for us to diagnose!

You might start with downloading some virus/malware "detect" software and see if anything is "lurking"...?

It might be that you have the lower quality of Initial Preview images at time of Import (see Auto Import settings), so that the system is forced to regenerate a higher quality representation of the image when it is first selected by you in the Develop module.

How do I verify/change my setting? When I click IMPORT, in the upper right it says 1:1 for RENDER PREVIEWS.
When importing it takes a long while for the images to process if I have a full 4GB card.

Hmm, I'm not sure where in the Import module, but you should be able to click and change that option.

Also, in the Edit/Catalog Preferences, you can change the "default" behavior in the File Handling tab.

well since you've been using LR3 only for 3 months, maybe your catalog is getting bigger. How much ram do you have? Also what version of LR3 are you using, some of the versions have performance bugs. also are you running other programs. you will take a big performance hit to LR if youre running PS or other photo software if you have a computer thats a few years old and low on ram.

In LR3
File, Auto Import, Auto Import Settings and at bottom of page Initial Previews: Standard

With 1:1 for previews, there are more massive files to load in intially; with Standard, the ultrahigh res view is rendered only when you go pixel peeping, saving initial load time (and time during initial Import and preview rendering)!
