Hi Derek!

It's hard to give you a lot of advice without knowing what you used to shoot and process the pictures.

The middle of the three appears to be the best as it looks the sharpest. It's a real balance between cropping to get a bigger bird, but exposing slight softness in the pictures.

Let us know what camera and/or lens you were using and if you can find the settings in the EXIF of the original to tell us what the settings were. Then we can probably work from there to help you.

It's going to be a bit of a steep curve, but you're going to have to get away from using the program modes and into the Tv and Av...

Many like to use Av, I find that I will let my shutter speed slide too much if I do that, so I stick with Tv. Using your 300mm lens, you want to keep your shutter speed OVER 1/300s to try to minimize camera shake. A really good way to practice is to go out to where Gulls hang out and try shooting them as they hang on the winds.

Thanks, I will do that. I will start playing with the AV and TV settings. Thanks again for your help.
