We are in different worlds. Cable? Satellite? I'm still perfectly happy with my "normal" TV, not that I watch much of it these days.

If we wanted "normal" TV we'd have to buy a digital converter.

I grew up with old cars, my Fathers then mine. 20 years old was new to us and parts were readily obtainable. Yes, they needed a lot of maintenance, but no one ever suggested that we should be buying newer vehicles, which we could not have afforded anyway.

I don't see digital photographic kit as any different. I don't want the latest model camera, all I want is one that suits my needs.

Whilst I fully agree with these sentiments (my car is a 1997 Mazda, my cameras are a 40D and a 5D classic) I have to ask for how many people would a D2000 suit their needs today?

It can't be enough to justify continued support for the model. I mean, does a 2mp camera, with a maximum of ISO 1600 meet your needs today? I would guess not, as looking at your webpage you have upgraded from a 30D to a 5DII, and the D2000 doesn't even come close to offering what the 30D did.

A 14 year old car, can still do pretty much everything a modern car can, in terms of meeting needs. My Mazda saloon can cruise at over 100mph with ease, it has air-con, air bags, ABS and most other modern "necessities" of life. It will whisk me to my destination, almost as quickly, safely and comfortably as a new one. The D2000 is slightly newer (1998) but has few of the abilities we have come to expect from a modern digital SLR. In car terms it is probably equivalent to something built in the 1950s, and manufacturers stopped supporting those some time back as well.

No, you are right. In fact the camera I want has not yet been made, so I'm playing a waiting game. But ISO 1600 is more than I ever need or use, so although I understand your point about 2MP, you used the wrong example mentioning ISO!

Yeah I have a CF card adapter. After re-formatting the CF card twice I got it to work. But now Im in a software (I think) dilemma. I can take photos and get them on the card but I cant figure out which program to use to actually get full size pictures off the cards. When I view the pictures in adobe I just get small thumbnails (which are still 1.8mb) So Im confused. The camera came with a bunch of software, which has all been updated so its making things complicated. Fun Fun Fun.

I think in the end were going to end up selling the body and moving on anyhow, But Id atleast like to know this thing is fully functional before going that route.

I can't imagine there being any lower settings on a 2 MP camera as far as photo size but it's possible I suppose.

Looking at that link it tells me that there are no other resolutions other than 2 MP.

Have you looked into connecting the camera directly to the computer and grabbing the images that way? What I'm reading on that site is that they are using Firewire to transfer the images.

Maybe it's the PCMCIA card reader you have too that's causing the problem. Could be a few things causing your headaches. I still think it may have something to do with that 16GB card your using.

I cannot imagine the D2000 will accept a high capactiy card. Try an old 8MB card, or at max 64MB.

I wouldn't even go that high. There was a 340MB PCMCIA Hard Drive available for this camera. I wouldn't go with anything but a first generation card for that card reader. A 1x if you would. I think the extra speed just confuses the camera or the reader he's got it plugged into or both. Keep it simple. Slower cards might work fine. I know that the camera will only write as fast as it can to a card no matter how fast that card can read data but I really think an older (slower, smaller) card would work much better.

Well like I said... prepare yourself to be disappointed a lot in the future. Apple's latest Macbook pro ($2,000+) was recently reviewed for it's ability to be serviced if something went wrong on the inside. On a scale of 0-10 (10 being easy, 0 impossible) it received a score of 1. Expect this even more in the future.

Car manufacturers only need to support spares for any model for 10 years (in Australia at least). Expecting more than that from an electronic manufacturer is a bit much imo

Not bothered about an Apple Macbook. I use locally manufactured PC's exactly because they are servicable.

I use a 512K CF card in a PCI adaptor with my D2000.
Lightroom has no issues processing the pics.
D2000 is fun for occasional use.
