Recently I constructed a new pc, with windows 7 premium, CS5, etc.
Problem is, I want jpg files to open windows and not in CS5 (unless I make it). Currently any, all graphics open in CS5 or lightroom.

I know I can 'right click" and choose where to open, but I want jpg to automatically open in windows, not an adobe program.

Note: This ssd and a spinning hard drive is lightning fast!

Thanks for any help

You're going to have to be more specific here. What do you mean by 'open windows'? If you mean 'open Windows Photo Viewer' then follow these instructions -

  • Open an Explorer window that includes a jpeg image file.
  • Right-click on that file.
  • Select the option 'Open with' and click on the botton option - 'Choose Default Program'.
  • Make sure the box lebelled 'Always use the selected program to open this type of file' is ticked.
  • Select 'Windows Photo Viewer'. Press OK.

However, Windows Photo Viewer is a pretty rubbish photo viewer. I'd recommend downloading FastStone (external link) or IfranView (external link). Both free, both much, much better. Download them both and see which you prefer.

Thanks for the info. Actually after an 30 minutes, I saw the default options and changed everything (except RAW of course).
After using XP Pro for years it takes a while to become fluent with a new system.
I'll probably be visting again soon.
