With their new RT lighting system.

I just picked up 2 600s and the st transmitter this week. I finally got a chance to pop them out today.

They are wonderful.

I can't tell you how sweet it was to show up, turn on the flash and controller, watch them sync instantly, and shoot.

You know it's good when the model says "you don't mess with your lights like the other guys."

I shot until we burned out the batteries in the st, which came out to 480 pics. The flash was still going strong with a power pack attached.

This is awesome.

PS. 580s and RPs for sale.

This space for rent.

Awesome!! I would have grabbed 3 600s and used one as the ST. Reports are this works well and gives you three strobes. Possibly a more cost effective way to go.

Agree. But I got the ST for $299 at my local retailer. At half the price of the strobe it made sense.

The ST looks VERY good on the camera. I appreciate a good piece of design, and they delivered.

Too bad they don't put out enough power to use any real modifiers.

I use a 580 exii in a 7 foot westscott octabank with baffle. It works great. I am sure the 600 will work just fine.

A real modifier as opposed to a fake modifier?

This myth has been conclusively disproved. Flash guns work fine in large modifiers.

If it was really a myth, I would totally bring my 600RT ONLY at every wedding instead of hauling around my Einstein. There's no way I would be able to balance the shot below of the bride in front of the window with bright sunlight coming in the window with a small modifier. Nor, would I be able to get the group shot below in the bright sunlight that I was forced to shoot in. I shot them at f/14 at 1/250s of a second at iso 100... something like that. Even with high speen sync, you lose power. Small flash is great, but not for everything.

Now you went from modifiers to overpowering the sun. Two different things entirely. No a couple of hotshoe flashes won't overpower the sun, but in a studio they are great with most reasonably sized modifiers of all types.

Nobody every said flash guns were good for everything. I was just reacting to your statement that they can not be used with "real" modifiers. Which is false.

Your attempt to appeal to the extreme does not make your first statement any more true.

For my style of shooting, small flash guns don't provide me with enough light... that's all I'm trying to say. If I do use them, I use them in combination with my Einsteins, and I end up using the pocketwizard mini and flex - even with the 600RT. (because I mix light brands) BTW, the mini and flex work fine with the 600RT even without an update from pocketwizard.

This is reasonable.

Apologies for creating confusion.

I was commenting more on the ease of use, not the fact that they were underpowered when compared to profotos or approach lights at the local airport.

Assuming you were in a situation where speedlights were enough, I think the new system is quite easy to use.
