My father and I spotted the ISS accidentally a couple nights ago. Before that I had no idea it was so easily visible from here. So I looked for upcoming passes on Heavens Above, set up the tripod tonight, grabbed a few 30s frames and stacked 'em.

I got a similar shot with the ISS through the Pleiades, under Polaris and an airplane over it

Yeah, I remember this shot from your other thread where you got the ISS in your scope, and it was part of my inspiration to get this shot. I currently do my astrophotography in spurts when visiting my parents, it is tough to do in the city but I will be moving to a small town soon.

Pretty much the only way to get a continuous line is to do a single exposure it seems... the thing moves so quickly across the sky.

Man, I wanna spot one! I haven't done that yet. I know HA can give me the Iridium flare predictions. I'm starting to build an awareness of the parts of the sky that are visible from my parents' backyard. I'll use a low ISS pass to be like, okay, 20* alt clears the trees to the north, 15* is their height, 12* and the ISS appears out of this tree, passes behind this one and reemerges over here... The eastern trees are like 20* high, but stars aren't visible until about 25*... I'll have to do all this at my new house when I move, but at least I know the process I want to use for it now and I'll make a sheet for reference.

The altitude of the ISS pass in this photo was a maximum of 36* NNW according to HA, and our latitude is 39+* so Polaris should mark about 39 or 40*.

BTW, for ISS spotters, I recommend *not* choosing the "visible" radio button. My parents and I spotted a pass that was not listed under visible, it was during dusk and the sky had darkened enough for us to see it very well even though HA thought it would be visible.
