As the title says, I use an R2880 which has pigment ink. Epson clearly state a drying time of 24 hours, but recently I have been allowing my prints, intended for sale, only overnight before framing them up.

Whats everyones considered opinion? Are Epson simply erring on the side of caution, or does it really need the full 24 hours?

I've been printing A3+ Epson Premium Glossy and Hahnemuhle Torchon. I normally seal the reverse on all four sides with a wide brown paper tape as I believe it makes the finished product look more "professional".

My wife tells me I'm too impatient!

It seems that the humidity has a lot of bearing on the true dry time, so that the Epson recommendation is the worst case time.

Red River papers calls it "de-gassing" but when using their papers, they also recommend 24 hours, prints not stacked.

When shipping a larger amount of prints, I too, like you, cut time back to about 12 hours. Mine are rolled in a tube, not framed and even with that close contact, I have never received a complaint.

Use your nose. I find RR's term of de-gassing to be accurate. Immediately after printing, ink smell is obvious. When that smell is greatly reduced, or disappears, I consider them to be "dry."

My grateful thanks to you both, you have put my mind to rest. I have framed up an A3+ image for a public house "display" (to call it a gallery is waaay to posh) a local landlord is kindly offering me and I am delivering it and another tomorrow. I've never noticed any ill effects YET from framing up too soon, but have been concerned.

For me I find it depends on the paper. I use an iPF6300, and before that a 6100. In both cases it takes a minium of 24 hours for the colors to completely settle when using Canons "Watercolor" paper - a non-resin coated stock that has a very "velvety" surface.

If I reprint yesterdays image today, the new one has a small but perceptible difference in saturation, with the yesterdays print being richer, and the colors seeming to come from a depth within the paper.

Kind of hard to describe without seeing it, but point being, I don't stack or frame, or even make judgements until 24 hours has passed.

On the other hand, RC papers are ready in about 5 minutes.
