One of favorite birds from recent vacation to the Costa Rica.
This one was hunting on the shore of Tempisque River in Palo Verde National Park, Costa Rica.
Thanks for looking.

Wow, what a neck! Amazing looking creature Kris. Great find and photos. I cannot imagine what it must be able to swallow. Hold on to small children is what it looks like.

Wow-what a bird-and amazing shots! Well done. My wife has been saying CR is a place she'd like to visit. Hmmm.

Thanks all :)
It was first trip to CR, but I am more than sure I'll go there again. Most likely for the rain forest with birds as a main topic of the trip :)

Our oldest son just got back (yesterday) from Costa Rica, the Caribbean side. He loved it there.

Kris,

Very nice shots of an unusual bird. The markings are amazing. Thanks for sharing with us.

Sure different from the herons we are used to seeing in North America. Super shots.
