In two years the T4i WILL BE old technology. Buy the best you can afford right now. I still shoot a T1i and a 60D. They will be 'old' when I buy my 5D3 next March. I'll still use them anyway. In 2017 my 5D3 will be old technology. Speaking of old, my Yashica FX-2 was made in 1976. Anyone think their current DSLR will still be working as designed in 2048? Old does NOT mean, bad or inadequate. It just means manufactured a long time ago. Heck, I was made in 1957 and I am still working as designed, for the most g that could happen is I'd end up with the 3T.

All true I have no way of knowing if your '57 build is really still in good shape. I'll take your word for it.

Thing is for me...I was a few hours from picking up my T3i...Chasing technology doesn't really work in most instances because doing that would preclude anybody from buying anything. I'm not like that but just saying'...something this new is probably worth waiting three weeks for especially considering I hadn't even picked up my new rig.

I do appreciate your input and every body else who has chimed in. I really can't wait to touch and feel the T4i. In the end the worst thing that could happen is I could end up with the exact camera and lenses I had ordered at a reduced price.

As for taking advantage of the T4i's new AF, right now there are only two STM lenses. The new 18-135mm and the 40mm pancake.

So is it safe to assume that Canon will be adding the STM feature to lenses like the 70-300? I have no idea.

it will cost more to start - so if you plan on spending more - you may want to look at the 60D or invest in better glass

as you are in no rush, it wont matter - but dont get taken in by some clever touch screen that you may not use - its OK on cameras that do not have view finders - but as already said - nose will be up against most of the time
and I only use the screen for a few changes in the menu and then previewing the image -and use my thumb to got to 10x without changing my hold of the camera for the next shot
and standing in a shop playing with a screen is a bit different to how you may use it real life taking shots

If the T4i is the T3i with some improvements and your ok with the starting price of it then there is nothing wrong with waiting. I actually slightly dread getting fresh off the factory line because then your in the front lines of digital warfare that fixes all the kinks and errors for people like me that wait for some reviews and revisions. You'll enjoy whatever rebel you get though, they're a great body.

It's only better if you really, really like a touch screen or you plan to use one of the two STM lenses for continuous video.

Since you returned it buy the T4i, it's upgraded base features makes it very similar to the 60D.

T4i no doubt. It is a far better camera due to better af points and FPS IMO.

IMHO the T4i represents a major leap in the Rebel line. The previous models were incremental updates. T2i was a leap too with its hdslr capabilities. But the T4i is quite the something else from previous Rebel cameras.

they definitely beefed up some of the features in the Rebels but the 60D price is dropping, especially in the loyalty program so ..... decisions .. decisions

I've just ordered a new T4i for the wife as she's currently using my old T2i and it's about time for an update. The T4i even uses the same batteries and grip as the 550D so there's a bonus too. Neither of us has done any video to speak of so it might be time to find out if it's worth the hype. As the release date for the T4i has been announced as the 15th June you shouldn't have too long to wait for your new camera.
