Well the improvements are obvious but are they worth the big price difference? I don't think so. If AF in video and touch screen is important for you, you can go for it (if you also have the cash to spend), but for me T3i gives %99 of what I expect from a DSLR, i am not interested in gimmicks that much.
I would spent the extra cash for a new lens for sure, but that is just me :)

Improved AF is not a "gimmick". That used to be one of the primary reasons to step up from the Rebel line.

The 5 frames per second are also SWEET! This camera finally feels up to its name - Rebel! And I started with an XTi, then T3i & now the T4i....
