Hey guys, it's another "which bag" thread. I kinda wanted something along the lines of a 5MDH, something nice, discreet-ish, and not too bulky. Probably going to be carrying a body+lens, another lens, another lens/flash, and maybe a few filters and accessories. And this is pretty much going to be used as a walk-around bag, around cities and stuff. I was going to get the 5MDH, but I wanted to hear what your experiences were and what you guys like to use.

P.S. Bonus if it's on sale! xD

I got the Canon Backpack for my birthday, Its not a shoulder bag but fits a ton of gear very nicely and is padded quite well. Its fairly discreet minus the canon logo. Not sure if it suits your wants or needs but just my .02. If your interested in it, I can give you the full gear list I can fit in it

I do have a fairly large backpack for when I need it, but I'm wanting something smaller for like photo walk-arounds. Maybe some details I should add. It'd be nice if it was easily accessible so I can change lenses and stuff on the go. And I'll probably be in crowded areas fairly often. I appreciate the $0.02 though!

Look at the Timbuk2 Snoop Messenger bag. Dj R did a review on it a few days ago. Its a really good bag for a walk-around.

I, myself, actually had a Timbuk2 Classic messenger bag delivered to me today and put my own insert in it. Since the "Camera Snoop" version has limited color choices, I took the liberty to get the regular (Small) one and just add my own camera insert. I love it!

Dj R pretty much sums up the difference between the regular messenger and the camera versions. The Snoop doesn't have enough differences to warrant the limited selection of colors.

Here's the one I bought. Color is Grey/Cold Blue/Tusk Grey (external link).

LOVE my Think Tank retrospective 10. Discreet and it's amazing how much stuff it carries.

The other night I carried it around for 6.5 hours at the Sydney Vivid light festival. Carried a 5dM3, 24-70mm, 70-200mm, 580exii, spare batteries, cards and a lot of other stuff. It was not a bother.

As I mentioned before I love it... For me anyway it's a 10/10 shoulder bag.

Wow, thanks for the recommendations. I actually really like both the Timbuk2 Snoop and the Retrospective. Although, after checking out the other retrospective bags, I think a Retrospective 5 would fit my needs more as none of my gear is especially big. I'm gonna have to make the decision quick as I need it for this weekend. But DAMN camera bags are pricey.

I've looked at both the Retrospective 5 AND 7 before getting my Timbuk2. I gotta say that the biggest deal breaker in getting the Retro 5 or 7 is the lenses you'll be carrying.

I like the Retro 7 for a one lens + camera, extra lens, and extra lens/flash option. I like to carry my 5D2, Samyang 35mm (mounted), Sigma 85mm, and a 430EX, and the Retro 7 would be perfect for that because my lenses are a little "fat" and everything wouldn't be jammed pack.

I also liked how the Retro 7 can carry my 70-200 f/4 unmounted. It'll bulge out a little on the Retro 5.

The plus side of the crumpler MDH series is the padding; there's lots of it, which is great, I've fallen on top of my 6MDH a few times and my gear has survived every time.

Another vote for the Retrospective series. I have the 30 and it's great, the only thing I have to remind myself is to not fill it up as it can become heavy quickly and start wearing on the shoulder and back. Just to clarify, by filling it up I mean griped body, 2 heavy lenses, 2 smaller lenses and then the typical accessories. It is very easy to get into and swap lenses without having to set it down and the bonus is that it doesn't stand out and scream camera bag.

Seems like everyone loves the Retrospective! But the Crumple 5MDH is still tempting at half the price, and I do own a 3MDH and I like it. Man.. The stress in deciding on a bag..

PS. Does anyone know how the weather resistance is on the Retrospective bags? I often find myself in the rain (I don't really wanna put a cover over it, it makes it inconvenient if I need a quick shot) and it'd add extra peace of mind if the fabric had some sort of water resistant qualities like the Crumpler bags. I'm leaning towards the Retrospective 5/7 because they look real nice and many seem to like them, but I think I just need something more to justify the hefty price tag.

If you like the look of the thinktank retrospective series, take a look at the domke f5xb, similar (better IMO in fact), but far cheaper.

Can you list your gear?
I'm selling a minty crumpler 5mdh in black.
Good luck with your hunt for the perfect bag.

Djcyber, thx for the shout-out.

If you want to be out in the rain without a rain cover, get a Billingham.

The Billingham "Hadley Pro" is the same size as the Retrospective-7, carries well, is easy to get into, is better padded, and it is designed to be weather proof without the need for additional covers.
