What do you think about touchscreen slr?

I hear the T5i will be able to get Angry Birds though.

As for the T4i I would hope you can disable the touch screen or there will be a flood of "My nose changed my ISO,Wht do I do now!" I know my screen is always smudged after a few shots.

On a tripod touch screen could be great. If the camera is up to your eye touchscreen is useless. I see it as being useful for image review and tripod mounted macro, but I already have a 10" touchscreen for that.

Angry Birds on my camera?!? I'd kill the battery before I got to the shoot!

BAD idea for me ...i use my left eye to shoot with...so my nose would be touching the screen all the time... unless you can lock the screen before you shoot..???

You can disable it. Also, if it has the same sensors my T2i has the screen will turn off when your face gets close to it.

^ Theres a sensor under the eye piece that deactivated the screen if its covered by your eye or face. Hopefully with the touch screen they will integrate that to deactivate the touch actions.

Automatic deactivation of the touch screen when you have the face close to it works very well on phones - so why should it be an issue with a camera?

You guys have no idea how well a touchscreen performs.

With my olympus OM-D Em-5 (better IQ than a 7d/60d when static/slow moving subjects are concerned) I can compose a photo in a matter of seconds. When your eye is in the viewfinder it disables all touchscreen capabilities. This is when I use the buttons to select AF focus points as my eye is in the viewfinder.

A touchscreen can select an AF focus point instead of using your thumb to select with buttons (or joystick)

Guys may laugh now but just watch a higher end full frame have this function in the next 5 years (ex: 5dmk4)

Personally, I think it's about as much a gimmick as video on a DSLR. ....

It's a natural technology progression. Touch screen has to be added. Video is proven to be a valuable addition to DSLR. Before long, DSLR will have WiFi, 3G, websurfing, gaming ability.... Why not? the computation power is already there. You cannot have too much power.... DSLR WILL be phased out when the on board CPU becomes more powerful, the flipping mirror thing looks more and more like a residue from the past, already.

But can it do it when you're looking through the viewfinder? The whole purpose of selecting AF is to do it while viewing the image through the viewfinder. Joysticks make this easy to do.

So the whole movie industry now uses 5D2s rather than dedicated movie equipment? Don't think so...

I think you'll find that other than the odd sponsored production, the movie industry still uses equipment designed and best suited for their use. Others from within the industry have commented to that effect elsewhere on here.

Personally I get fed up enough as it is with grease and marks on my rear screen without the additional debris caused by dabbing my grubby little fingers all over it.

no thanks. I struggle enough with a phone that doesn't really matter if I get things wrong with, but a camera is another matter...

I have a very strong dislike for touchscreen interfaces. I find them fiddly to use and of course a touchscreen requires your eyes be on the device as they cannot be used by feel.

With all that said, I don't care if Canon adds a touch screen to their dSLR line so long as they do not cripple or delete the existing controls. So long as the touch screen is a additional feature that I can choose to use or ignore, then fine. I might even find a few things like focus point selection where I like it.
