Thanks for that! I had assumed someone was already doing that but never knew who :D
I'm going to contact them, I specialize in the android OS but I hope I can help them out with a few things!

no thanks. I struggle enough with a phone that doesn't really matter if I get things wrong with, but a camera is another matter...

+1. I have an iPhone and have enough problems with the touch screen. Don't need camera touch screen problems.

The only feature i like is simply touch any of the screen and it will be focus, another feature is that zoom with touch screen is way way way faster than u press the zoom button, i would say add touch screen to DSLR body is a BIG BONUS !!

Add "Siri" to the camera and ask Siri to take photos for you. Brilliant.

I don't think you need to worry except maybe on entrance level cameras where they can save money by using a touch screen.

But the better camera models will never replace mechanical switches/knobs/wheels - only complement them. The tactile feedback etc are a much too important part, as is the requirement to adjust a number of settings with the camera held to the face.

Never is a very long time.

Yes, but when high end cameras don't have buttons/switches then we don't talk about DSLR cameras as we know them today. Is a bike a bike if we remove the wheels and make it hover?

Sound-controlled cameras aren't practical but it isn't unlikely that we will get thought-controlled cameras. But will these be DSLR or competely new products "capturecorders" or whatever?

It's all a question of scope.

Well a hovering bike is totally different than a touchscreen based DSLR. Who would have thought the phone would be totally touchscreen? Afterall, the cell phone the jour when Apple came out with the iPhone was full of buttons, like the RIM phone. How quickly we have adapted and moved on to a buttonless phone. You say this cannot happen to a camera?

Which need not be a problem if the camera have already deactivated the touch function before the nose touches the screen. And to function well, a camera with touch have to take such issues into account instead of just reusing the same proximity-sensor parameters a mobile phone is using.

One thing with touch screens is that most implementations requires the finger, pen etc to actually touch the screen. The resistive versions even requires a bit of pressure.

But a normal capacitive screen doesn't work with gloves unless there are wires or similar in the gloves. The screens can also be made projective, allowing them to react before the finger touches (or allowing them to react when normal gloves are used).

Lots of users are likely to be quite frustrated if important functionality requires the use of the touch screen, and that touch screen requires that the user do not wear gloves. Lots of photography is done is climates where you do not want to remove the gloves. Phones can handle their most important functionality (calling a number) by voice activation. But a camera is likely to be used in situations where there is too much noise. And where it is quite boring to have to either have to remember lots of words for direct-access to menu choices, or have to say "Menu, Down, Down, Down, Enter, Down, Enter, Exit".

So for professional use, touch screens can be very good complements. But have a huge number of issues if used as only interface.

Gosh so many electronics are going this route my guess at some point if it does not have a touch screen people will be upset. I watched a youtube of someone using the T4i touch screen and sure looked easy and fast, I did not notice any finger prints or smudges on the screen either.

I love it as long as it is optional. I teach photography for my local adult school. Many less than tech savvy people (close to 80% of my classes) have a lot of trouble with adjusting settings because knowing what buttons to press can be confusing. I think the touch screen is great for entry level DSLRs.

I agree with you.
I also KNOW it will migrate to every level of DSLR in time. Its just how it is. Touchscreens are here to stay and are integrating into everything. Photogs can be pretty stubborn and resistant but the majority change eventually :)

I can definitely see the benefit of a touchscreen for video and especially macro. The swivel screen will also makes its way into more models. Of that I'm positive too.

I think it is a brilliant move by Canon that will soon be followed by the other big DSLR manufacturers. The Rebel line of cameras simply isn't marketed to the same segment of the population that the 7D or even the 60D is. People shopping at Sams or Best Buy are going to play with the touch screen and want to buy this camera. That is a win for Canon when the competing products sitting next to the Rebel don't have a touch screen.

I have been shooting with a 30D for some time now (love it too) and I have to say that I am very seriously tempted by this camera. My wife is still intimidated by the 30D but I have a feeling she might actually start using the T4i with the touch screen. She doesn't want to fiddle with nobs and buttons scattered on the back of a camera. I know the video features would appeal to her as well. I think I can come to embrace these changes as well given a little on camera time.

Touch screen is just a supplement. However in live view you can compose a shot in seconds. My Oly E-M5 makes me rethink how to use my canon dslr's after using the touchscreen. Selecting AF points is so convenient that its silly fast.

So the whole movie industry now uses 5D2s rather than dedicated movie equipment? Don't think so...

I think you'll find that other than the odd sponsored production, the movie industry still uses equipment designed and best suited for their use. Others from within the industry have commented to that effect elsewhere on here.

strawman argument. I never said the whole movie industry, nor implied the 5D2 somehow took the place of standard movie equipment. Conversely, If you think the 5D2 had no influence on video, you've been living under a rock.
