I received the Sony 50mm f/1.8 OSS lens as well as the Sony Nex-5n the other day, and had a chance to take a ton of sample photos from around the house.

No offense, but are you a Sony employee?

Think new Canon lenses are overpriced? Lots (and lots) of data will set you free!

agreed, that lens looks huge on that body. why'd they make it in chrome? black might make it less noticeable.

No I am not. I have a full time job and I review mostly Sony gear as a hobby/ side job in between photography gigs.

I have no affiliation with Sony whatsoever.

Agreed, man, that lens is HUGE for a 50 1.8! lol. Optically doesn't look to be the best, either, then again if you want a stabilized 50mm fast prime it's the only game in town right.

No. Sony's regular Alpha cameras have sensor stabilization, so their little $150 50mm f1.8 and $350 50mm f1.4 are stabilized on all Alpha bodies.

Pentax also has Sensor shift stabilization, so their fast primes are all stabilized.
