Just ordered mine. I should have it by the end of the month! I've been waiting for the update to buy a new computer, to see if it would be what I was looking for. The things that sold me were the 2800x1800 resolution, which is absolutely insane, and the low weight (.5lbs lighter than a 13 MB Pro), and the separate GPU. I've needed a new computer to replace my 11.6 Macbook Air because it was too slow for photo editing (but perfect for portability and everyday use).

If you don't want to get a Mac there are plenty of PC's that are pretty sweet too, but the resolution is a game changer for me. Now to sell my old computer.

Just ordered the new Retina MB Pro (2.7GHz i7, 16GB, 512GB SSD). This will actually be my first Apple laptop (I've got a Mac Mini for testing at work but I don't do any actual work on it). I can't wait.

Perhaps more importantly is that is an 8-bit panel.

"Raw" is not an acronym, abbreviation, nor a proper noun; thus, it should not be in capital letters.

Congrats on the purchases! :) I will be ordering mine on Friday.

This will be my first Mac as well. I have been waiting for this laptop to arrive for some time now. I do however wish the memory/drive were user upgradable, but such sacrifices are made to save space. None-the-less, it appears to be spectacular machine. I cannot wait

I've been saving for a better computer for awhile, and Macs have good resale value, so I should be able to get a decent amount for my old one. The new ones with the SSD, new screen, and form factor aren't anymore than a similarly spec'd 15" MB Pro, which I was thinking about buying a couple of months ago. The price is a bargain compared to what you could buy from them yesterday, I plan to use it for at least 3 years.

No 17" MBpro? IMHO, the Mac Pro update is weird. Still no USB 3 or thunderbolt. For a lot less you can build a 6core sandy bridge. No update to iMac. I would have guessed they would be updated to i7 ivy bridge.

Yeah, there's no 17" MBpro anymore, I don't know if they plan to do it at a later date (maybe bring out a retina 13" and 17"?). At least all the Laptop models have usb 3.0 now.

I'm still using the iMac I purchased in October 2006. Within that time, my brother has purchased 3 PC laptops, all of which had major hardware problems. To me, paying extra for a machine that's reliable and can easily last 5+ years is totally worth it.

I am bummed out though that Apple didn't announce any new iMacs today. I was ready to order one but they're delaying them until the fall most likely.

I don't think I can wait that long. Never thought about getting a Macbook Pro but now I'm seriously considering it. Only thing that's holding me back is that I've always used desktops to work & edit on. Never laptops. Is it any more difficult using a laptop to edit?

Do we know that? I know it's an IPS screen, but some low-end IPS is 6-bit.
