What about the ef 100-300 f/4-56? It's discussed in that top 10 sport lenses thread and is much less expensive than the other lenses mentioned.

Haven't used it, but read reviews. It was not bad, but not great either. But people said it had good value for its price.

What others do you suggest for shooting baseball that are in that price range?

That lens will be fine for that price. You'll be fine with that, but down the road you might want to consider the Sigma 70-200 2.8 or Canon 70-200 4.

Ok. What about the Sigma AF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Macro Super II? Sorry for all of the questions... Thanks for your quick responses though!

I own the 17-85 IS USM (came with the kit) and a 70-300 IS USM. Although both are slower than the above mentioned L beauties, they still take outstanding tack-sharp photos. Yes, you may have to bump up the ISO and, no, you won't be gulping as much light but, how much cash do you want to lay-out to begin with here? Another question to ask is "how comfortable are you with post-processing?" You know, Photoshop CS or, at least,PS Elements or other digital software. It can make up for lack of aperture in a hurry. Consider also, that you may want to become comfortable and proficient with your camera - especially shooting sports - before reaching for more light (at a much higher price tag). And, finally, you're right-on in wanting an Image Stabilizer lens - fantastic feature and also can give up to a 3-stop advantage!

Here's an idea: buy the camera, mount the lens (for baseball, go for the 70-300) and shoot, shoot, shoot! It's digital...you'll get it!

Best,
