Whats the best place to get a free blog setup. I'd like to start documenting my day to day with this whole photography thing. Will be starting a "100 strangers" project soon, and would like to update the blog on that. I'd also like this blog to have the ability to be upgraded later on to a paid website(with my own url) at a later date. Any suggestions?

www.blogger.com/ (external link) is a free google blog that's relatively easy and nice while remaining free.

I love Wordpress. Have been using it for a long time for various sites. I host my own photography site using it (www.danmarchant.com (external link)). The host your own version is from wordpress.org. Alternatively they will host for you at wordpress.com.

A quick Google turns up lots of options and gives this top 10 free blog sites (external link) with a short explanation on each one. I've used both Blogger and WordPress and they both have their strong points and things that I thought could have been done easier. Much like comparing other software applications that provide the same end result, there is always going to be something that someone doesn't like or that they absolutely love.

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.

I also like Wordpress. I use it on my own domain. I do not host my photo's on my site but use a customized flickr plug-in to make a Photo album, widget and show photos in blogs.

Wordpress is easy to use.You only need PHP/HTML/CSS skills when you want some customizing at your theme and plug-ins. But there are many free templates and plug-ins so you can build a website with out any knowledge of PHP/HTML/CSS

I personally use tumblr, which is really easy to use for posting pictures/audio/text/anything. Blogger is also good, and has a few more options although in my opinion isn't quite as easy to use.

+1 on what snafu says here.

I have used Blogger since 2007 but I also have friends who use Wordpress. Both are good, cover different things, excel in some features and lack in others. This is what my BLOGGER site looks like:

http://www.pearlphoto.blogspot.com/ (external link)

I can't code HTML and needed something web-based that would get me up and running right away to blog about special projects, exhibits, things I was doing in photography and comments on the craft. BLOGGER was free and very easy to quickly jump into. It is separate from my galleries and website. I was able to post my first blog post in under an hour - it is quite straight forward.

Somebody correct me if I am wrong - but it's my understanding that with WordPress you have to acquire that s/w as a plug-in if the hosting site does not already have it. This is no big deal and many like the features/flexibility it offers. But the BLOGGER appeal is that it was "all there" on the site for me to use. Over the years BLOGGER has improved its features to stay competitive and their slideshow feature although quite basic, is better than it used to be.

No, not really. Wordpress.com operates in the same way Blogger does. It is hosted by them and it is "all there" ready to use. However there is another option. Wordpress.org allows you to download the software and install it on your own choice of host. This allows you greater control and flexibility. You can add far more custom features through plugins and themes. Due to its popularity many hosting companies have made this process even easier by implementing simple wordpress install scripts that automate the process.
