Here are the plans that I drew up for my Wrap-around diffuser. It is designed for the Canon 430EX Speedlite.

Looking inside...I used a piece of aluminum foil placed in the center of the inside layer of vellum.

Thanks for sharing that DW.

I have been thinking of taking a sabbatical and working on lighting, and then on improving my skills. This has given me some ideas on the first part, at least ;)

I have found with my MPE rig that the angle of the shot makes a real difference to the amount of light that hits the subject, i.e. if I shoot it from above then I often get blown highlights, but profile shots tend to be either OK or underlit.

Cracking shots BTW.

Thanks for the comments!! I hope my design can help someone else get better lighting in their images too. If you choose to build one be sure and post up some pics here in this thread. I would really like to see what others can do with my design also. Thanks again.

Great idea. What distances between lens and subject are you shooting at? What lens(es)?

Thanks,

Steve.

Thanks...I shoot with a Sigma 150mm f/2.8 Macro lens at the closest focus range of the lens in most cases. (About 9 inches +/- from the subject)

I really recommend trying some of this tape instead of aluminum foil http://www.amazon.com …ive-36-Inch/dp/B000BQRIV2 (external link) It worked great on my old popup diffuser. I plan to make a new one as I have just acquired a proper sigma flash so I am excited to see this plan.

Nice tip!! I would think that this tape should "scatter" some light around and soften it up a bit...

Yea when you look at it with a flashlight it is very interesting how it captures and reflects the light. I got mine at wallmart in the automobile section so you dont have to go to the trouble of ordering online if you dont want to.
