Lots of Macro with Tubes and lenses on this thread - I asked a fellow on the 40 hotcake thread who uses the Zeikos Extension Tubes what he thinks of them and he wrote a review. 3 Zeikos Tubes = $70 @ B&H. Canon 25mm = $140, Kenko Tubes = $199

I think I found an inexpensive gift for myself when I'm done a current food/restaurant shoot...

Good info!! I'll add them to my wishlist too.

Shot my first event last night (will post pics later). I wasn't official media or anything, but I tried to snap a few shots. I used my 50, which was good for getting people on the stage because I couldn't get all the way up there, but it made it difficult taking group shots of people.

Since I'm new to photog I'm just trying my hand at everything, though I still enjoy portraiture the most. Gonna try to be official media at a hip hop producer showcase coming up in LA next month. Hopefully they'll accept me even though I don't really have a portfolio.

So I was wondering, for those of you who shoot at events/concerts, what do you usually shoot with?

I had a hard time shooting events with primes for obvious reasons but now that I have the 17-55 those days are long gone! The lens is pretty damn sharp and with the IS you can shoot at pretty low light conditions without flash. Worth looking into even if you just rent it.

Alex nice shots of the vw dam that's low. I have a shoot booked on tues to shoot a silver e-type that's just been restored from the ground up every single thing on the car has been done. Funny thing is I have a glamour shoot on Sunday and am more nervous about shooting the car... Lol

Wow I'm super jealous! I been trying to shoot an old jag forever! What color is it? If its a bright color try to take it to take it to a neutral location so the car pops out. Do you use any circular polarizer filters? I extremely recommend them for shooting cars!

Alex its silver one, I am shooting it at the guys house it's a large country house with a long drive. I've got polarizer and nd filters also going to take some strobes to experiment a little once I have the shots that are required. I'm nervous as the guy has spent around £80000 having the car done so I have to do it justice

Good call! Seems reasonably priced to rent out, I'll have to do that if I get a media pass at the next event. I actually was looking at that when I was lens shopping, but as a beginner I couldn't justify that price tag. Seems like a reallyyyyy nice lens though.

...and now I'm thinking about trading or selling my Sigma 30 1.4 for the Tamron 17-50 2.8 VC. lol. I feel crazy.

I think out of all the things every camera body can do..the flippy screen is one of the best things ever put on ..probably also one of the reasons why I refuse to sell my 60D!

Tamron 17-50 2.8 non-VC is sharper and la cheaper! So why the zoom over the prime? The bokeh goodness not cutting it for you?

No I lurrrrrve the Siggy 30; used it at a family party and it was perfect for the most part. I'm just wondering if I could do with a little more versatility. I'll hold off on it, though, and probably just rent the Canon version first. I have the day off of work today, which is resulting in too much thinking. lol

Maria, if you have a nice copy of the 30mm dont get rid of it! I heard those are hard to come by lol

I wont be getting new gear until I get a bigger project and thats not probably until Christmas but I think the 5d III is calling my name.

LOL day off from work? Go do some shooting or watch some Netflix, it's what I do. Alex is right though it's hard to find a accurate focusing Sigma lens. I think you should still add the Tamron 17-50 non VC to your collection it's about $350 new?

Just realized it but Alex your username says MK3...5D III IS CALLING YER NAME!!

You guys are right, I'll hold onto it. It really is a great lens. I'm going through pictures from last night, will be out shooting all day tomorrow and Sunday, though :) And I think I'm gonna give more sunset/nighttime pictures a go this evening since my last attempt was pretty mediocre.
