Thats funny, I didnt think about that. the mk3 on my user name stands for the generation of my car. I have used the same user name for several forums since I was 16.

here is le ride...which happens to be my first car too. hard to believe i had the same car for 8 years. sadly its in pieces now actually since I got a new car and this turned into a project/weekend car. once its done it should look nice!

Man all these VWs are making it hard not to think about getting a new Jetta. I am almost through all my US Customs paperwork, if I get this job, I want a new car. Both the new Jetta and the Sportwagen have been catching my eye.

Saw this sweet heart a few years ago in NOLA:

I was thinking of doing that... well, I already have a Sigma 30, so I'm just thinking about selling my 50 outright for some extra money. Still unsure, though. I'm gonna give it a while and see if I find myself reaching in my camera bag for it...

Or I could sell/trade that to get the 17-50???

i can still return my 50mm to amazon so ordering the 28mm now. Primes are for low light and the 30mm Sigma aside from it's front/back focusing issue, it's slow also in focusing. I used to have it and get rid of it.

i already have the 17-50 Sigma and it's been a workforce too. just be careful shooting somebody in 17mm, it will distort a lot. make sure you do a lens correction in LR.

I actually haven't had any of those problems with the Siggy 30. I have one of those rare perfect copies. ;) The Sigma 17-50 seems really nice, but just realized that unless I sell this kit 18-135, I can't even consider an attempt at getting it. :(

Yeah, last person that replied simply said "Do a search, and fix the grips yourself" But that isn't what I asked... Also, I can't do it myself, because I want it to look good as new... Not worse then before I started LOL.

But thanks for the info anyway!

As a very much non-DIY'er, I'll probably replace the grip myself when it gets truly annoying.

As for Canon's cost, most of us either DIY, or had it done under warranty (of course mine didn't start to peel until AFTER warranty, go figure.) However, Canon generally has minimum review/service fee, around $200 IIRC, that covers most minor repairs and would most likely include the grip. Last time I sent in a non-warranty repair, it was a flat $200 for anything that cost $200 or less, and they would then revise the estimate if it took longer.

Since $200 is a ridiculous amount for a couple pieces of rubber, not to mention the 10 days without my camera, I don't plan to bother.

ETA: The $200 (plus insured shipping) is particularly ridiculous when the parts are available for around $40, too.

Its rather annoying when I go to grab my camera from around my neck, and the grip rolls back under my thumb. The front grip isnt as annoying though.

oooh yea that's a bummer - i used super glue for that and forced it in - it's not perfect but it doesn't fall off now - if you want it fixed you will have to contact canon for the replacement grip and glue it yourself

Hey guys - I have had my 60D for about a month (first dSLR) and I am loving every minute of it. Here is a link to my Flikr (external link).

In unrelated news I was thinking about picking up a macbook air 13" with Aperture. Have any of you ever used one to edit images?

That was interesting... it was my first time doing "street photography" that included people in the shots LOL. I felt so awkward because no one even had their point & shoots out tonight (or cell phone cams I suppose LOL).. ugh!

Anyway... One cool thing happened - some greyhound rescue folks invited me to take pictures of the greyhounds that were just laying around their table setup.

I was going to ask for an email address to send them, but they asked me before I had a chance LOL

While I was shooting, the man asked me if I was a pro. Told him, "someday." =D

& then the funniest thing happened.. the lights went out at their table. Turns out one of the greyhounds did his duty on the electrical pole! :D

Wish I had a longer FL than 105 max though.. would've netted me tons more shots. I felt like I stood out too much, even though no one was really looking at me. But a 70-200 or 70-300 would've been perfect. It was my first time though, had to get my feet wet!

Also, there were tons of kids/children out there, which spoiled pretty much every other shot I wanted to take, since I'm on the side of the fence that is against taking pictures without permission.

Every shot pretty much used ISO 6400 as well, since I didn't want to stand out flashing everything in site.

BTW I shoot strapless, do you? I'm going to look into getting a hand/wrist strap though.

____

I emailed the booth owner & he replied -- let me know they will be out there next month & also every Sat. at a Pet Smart. = chance to take proper photos = photos that will be worth having my name attributed to them = more opportunity! At this stage, pro bono photos since it's a good cause & learning experience.

I use a previous-gen (not quite 2 years old) MBA 13" for occasional editing. I prefer my desktop with the 24" monitor, but it's more about screen and hard drive space than power. The MBA can handle LightRoom just fine, and the newer ones especially shouldn't have issues with Aperture. Personally I just don't like editing on such a relatively small screen, I feel cramped even with the toolbars hidden, and feel like I'm not getting a full view of what I'm doing.

Andrew, I shoot with just a wrist strap, check out the Clik Elite wrist strap. The red isn't nearly as obnoxious in person :) and it's really lightweight and comfortable.

Yep. I like the Canon Hand Strap E2 (external link). It works well for me and if I need to add the neck strap you can without taking the hand strap off.

I haven't yet but I would like to scrap the bottom nob for an Kirl L Bracket (external link)

Yeah I have a 22 inch asus monitor that I can hook it up to. I just figured I would get more use out of a laptop and when needed can hook it up to my monitor. I also have a self built PC desktop but I want something for when I travel that I can dump photos on to empty my cards. Also I seem to think that aperture would be a probem more suitable to my needs because I mainly adjust exposure/lighting type things and photoshop seems to be overkill for that.

I bought a wrist strap a while back, but thought I'd hate it and never put it on.

Then I used it shooting autox a few weeks ago...And hot damn I love that thing!

It was just $20 to boot. Quick release and all.

I use a 2011 13" MacBook Pro and for some reason the thing gets super hot when I'm on LightRoom [or Skype] for a while... don't know what that's about, but I heard some 2011 iMac's have problems with the hard drives running hot. Who knows if MBP's are affected, too. It also lags once in a while, which I don't think it should be doing but I live with it. Having a laptop is convenient and I do hook it up to my Asus 22" monitor (benji25 :)) but I do plan to build my own PC because I can't imagine how hot/laggy this computer would get once I start using Photoshop in conjunction with LR.
