I'm reasonably confident I can get some very good pictures of the car, but I definitely should be charging a beginner rate. Granted I do have an hour drive to this place.

BTW I've never done prints before. doah!

those free prints and extra cost ones - do you actually print them or do you give them digital versions via email or disk?

I've done them through several places (yes, I print them and hand deliver them in a pleather folder), Zenfolio is my current favorite for car stuff. Smugmug and Shutterfly are both set up for pics of the kiddo because my wife likes them. I think a guy I shot a few for a while back is going to order a bigass metal print of a picture I took of his shop with a couple of really old cars out front. I've never done one of those before, where the picture is printed directly on aluminum...So I'm probably going to lose money getting two or three done before I'm happy with it. From what I've read, You have to just about blow out the highlights and oversharpen to the point where it looks like sand in order to get a great looking print on that stuff. Should be interesting.

I do it this way because I'm fairly new to printing, and I don't want them to get a picture that I'M not satisfied with. Once I'm more comfortable with how it all works, I'll probably set up a way for people to order directly.

I very, very rarely give digital files in anything coming close to a printable size. Because people suck and would do it anyway. Also because I don't have a website set up for people to buy a digital license from me :D Hell, if I got paid for a shoot, I don't even put the pics online except for printing purposes. Only stuff I post on Flickr (or here) is stuff I do for fun or experimenting...Like the racing shots I've done. I'm learning how to do it, so I practice once a month at autocross and those guys get the benefit of relatively small pics for free (most of them wouldn't pay for a picture if it were $1). Sold a few there though. I'll post the sh*t out of those pictures all over the internetz :D

Pet peeve that's been bugging me the most lately?

THERE IS NO APOSTROPHE IN THE WORD "PHOTOS", unless you're marking possession or making a contraction. "Sharing my photo's" is neither. An apostrophe is not inserted into any word to warn of an approaching "s".

That crap is all over this forum. Like saying "gears" instead of "gear"...But that's grown on me. Because it's funny to say. :D

Yeah, my life is exciting

LOL! Some of the "stream of thought" responses make me cringe a little too. I usually just bite my tongue and try to assume that in most cases the response may be from someone for whom English is a second language.

Either way, don't let it get you so worked up that you throw someone out of a window. ;)

Thank you, Pekka! I'm sure some members here might have imagined that POTN might begin winding down. But that doesn't make the news any less disappointing. So generous of you to allow us to go along for the ride. As a result you gave us a way to help each other become better photographers. But there's still so much more to learn.

Lighting gurus,

If I got this kit, would I be able to rig the softbox so that I can use my speedlites with it? Or are the holes in the diffusers really specific for either bulb or speedlite?

Holy wow Maria - nice find!

I don't see anthing in the literature about rigging SL's in them... looks like a great all inclusive Kit though - at the right price!

although, its designed for video but that's likely why you ask about the SL's

I don't know about a continuous lighting kit using CFL's. I can't imagine they would be able to output any sort of decent light.

I'd stick to a strobe of some sort or else speedlights.

yeah, a well written review said it would not do well serving as a key light...

Two 300 watt bulbs probably wont output a lot of light, or you would have to get them really close, which may ruin the shot.

Yeah, I wanted to know if there is a way to use them with speedlights and if I can, I'd definitely pull the trigger... then get one shoot through umbrella for some variety.

I also found this, but I'm a little wary because there aren't any reviews for it: http://www.amazon.com …4+inch+softbox+speedlight (external link)

I have been eyeing a Flashpoint DG600. 300 for the light and a power pack doesnt seem too bad.

I am probably not going to preorder the 6D, but I am going to see how my tax return looks.

I was the same, the more I read, the more the camera makes sense to me.

I do also have to pay for a Menisectomy, which is getting don on wednesday, so we will see....
