Was out doing some night shots and light painting with a group the other night. After it was over I ran into this guy in the middle of the night bouldering. I asked to snap a few pics if I sent him some and he agreed. It was fast, super dark and was on the way out, so didn't have very long to get everything perfect. I had to dodge a lot of places around him, so I'm not way happy with it, but it's been blowing up on my FB page so thought I'd share.

Debating whether to get a 85mm 1.8 lens and transmitter to do portraits (low key) or get a 10-55mm... thoughts? I love taking scenic shots, especially during hiking, but my pictures get boring after a while. I need to shoot people (with my camera).

Thanks Mirco. You're panoramic cityscape shots are stunning. It's really should be in Canada's postcard stands.

LOL! Yeah, there's probably not a lot of photogenic material to shoot in Hawaii. :( But I understand what you mean about shooting the same things repeatedly. Just keep your eyes open and you'll find a new angle.

The 60D is my first DSLR as well and it's been a pretty big jump up from my G5. Even after using it for a few months now it can still seem a bit overwhelming. But for the most part I'm still blown away with results. Most of the time. When operator error doesn't get in the way. ;) Keep your manual handy.

Thank you, Pekka! I'm sure some members here might have imagined that POTN might begin winding down. But that doesn't make the news any less disappointing. So generous of you to allow us to go along for the ride. As a result you gave us a way to help each other become better photographers. But there's still so much more to learn.

A few shots from the Johnny Appleseed Festival from a couple weekends ago.
A couple of my cousins were running some of the food concessions so it seemed
like a good time to try a few casual portraits of them and some of their kids and crew.
Besides, I got a free BBQ brisket sammidge from them so I felt I owed them a little something.

Canon's DPP software comes with an HDR tool and I hadn't really worked
with it much. I used a homemade diffuser on the on-camera flash which seems to
have helped open up the shadows but I wanted to try to give them a little more
punch so I ran a couple thru the HDR. It didn't take too long to realize that
the effect was very easy to overdo, especially for portraits.

I kept experimenting and taking different approaches and tried to keep things
dialed back a bit until I got an effect that I liked. And then I went back on a
couple of them and dialed them back some more and hopefully improved them.

So the big question is... Am I anywhere in the ballpark with these or do they
still look too heavy handed? Is there a particular sequence of adjustments that
you find works better for HDR?

good video showing how different lens focal lengths distort head-shots in portraiture.

I don't know what kind of HDR you did, but it's wrong. There's no clown barf in the pictures

Pics look great man. That's how HDR should be done, in my opinion. I haven't been able to achieve that nice of a result, that's for sure. I'm horrible at HDR. 5D III has it built-in, and does okay from what I've messed with, but I don't use it very often at all.

I love all of them. I love natural light now. The first one was like taken from a movie set. i love it. More like cinematic look.

Extremely beautiful cityscapes sir! Mind sharing a little on your technic and what program you stitched in? I'm still a little cornfused about how that process works completely.
thanks for any input!

Dude that's a really cool sculpture, was it at the airport on your way out or just something while you were out and about? I really like how you've shown the 60d is no slouch with this photo Vinz.
