I don't know what kind of HDR you did, but it's wrong. There's no clown barf in the pictures

Pics look great man. That's how HDR should be done, in my opinion. I haven't been able to achieve that nice of a result, that's for sure. I'm horrible at HDR. 5D III has it built-in, and does okay from what I've messed with, but I don't use it very often at all.

Thanx M of D! That's what I was afraid of. But I looked and couldn't find any ACB (Anti-Clown Barf) adjustments! So I had no choice but to jump in and fend for myself. Still trying to figure out exactly what I'm adjusting with the Fineness and Smoothness sliders. These shots were done with just a single image so that probably didn't give me the best results. But I still think that I made at least some improvement.

I started out with one of the preset adjustments and did some fine re-tuning from there. In a lot of ways it was like working with Unsharp Mask in PS. I wanted to see an improvement, but I didn't want to see a "too obvious" improvement. It takes a little patience and restraint.

I'll load up a couple more pics showing the original shot and a couple of my experiments.

Thank you, Pekka! I'm sure some members here might have imagined that POTN might begin winding down. But that doesn't make the news any less disappointing. So generous of you to allow us to go along for the ride. As a result you gave us a way to help each other become better photographers. But there's still so much more to learn.

Like I said, this was from just a single exposure so I'm sure I'm not actually using HDR to it's fullest advantage. But it seemed to still do a nice job of slightly bumping the saturation and contrast and maybe even the sharpness.

In the original the backgound's a bit light and the colors looked sort of flat.

IMAGE: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v147/tunamelt/POTN%20Canon/Appleseed137.jpg

The second one is my first attempt and at first I liked the added saturation and contrast. But the more I looked at it the more I realized that it really blocked up the shadows and added maybe too much texture to their faces, especially hers.

IMAGE: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v147/tunamelt/POTN%20Canon/Appleseed138.jpg

The third shot kind of splits the difference between the other two. Her complexion looked much more natural. And I really like the extra detail that I could see in her hair and the black hairnet she was wearing.

so since this is the 60D users and other stuff sort of thread, i think i can safely ask this here. i picked up a 50D as a second body and truly love it (of course not as much as i love my 60D...that would just be wrong) and today i picked up a tamron 17-50 f/2.8 non-vc. i've heard great things about this lens and i think it will partner up with the 50D amazingly well. does anyone here have the tammy 17-50 and absolutely hate it? vixen?? i need validation here!!!! will?

that's a good back up body and I think no one hates the 17-50 (are we speaking of the non vc one right?) it's highly recommended as one of the "must haves" as a general walk around lens for those who doesn't wanna pay for the premium in the 17-55 IS. I never got to use it personally but I never seen a bad photo from it in the archives and I believe many people here actually used the 17-50 and I haven't seen a bad photo from em either. :D

I was gonna get one actually before I went FF a year ago. xD

thanks lisa! yeah, it's the non-vc one. it's gonna pretty much be married to the 50D as the walk-around. and price was seriously a consideration. ok...i feel better :)

Looks pretty good to me Clay. I like the second one best. But I'm on my tablet...it washes things out a bit.

But I'm a big fan of going heavy on the backs.

I was going to til I saw the onion bokeh. LOL

Onion bokeh happens on every copy and that's the only thing stopping me from getting it. I am in love with bokeh as you can tell and I really really dislike onion bokeh, let me stress that some more, GO AWAY ONIONS. I know it can be fixed in PP but I don't have time to sit and fix every single one of them. It's more of a personal thing but I rather not have them in my photos. I was actually thinking of saving up for the 24-70 II but probably not...as I don't use any mid range and like it. lol

I'm more of a 50mm and on type of shooter. I feel awkward getting the normal shots.

i know the onion is a deal breaker.

i wish they will make the 24-105 a 2.8 with IS. that would be perfect.

Hey, do any of you use the Wacom tablets?

I'm stuck between the Bamboo Create (which I like over the other Bamboos because it includes all of the bundled software the Connect/Splash/Capture models have) - (larger than the Intuous5 small), & the Intuous 5 small & medium....

Obviously I'll be using it for editing/graphics/random drawings. Not sure if the tilt functionality that the Intuous provides would be handy for me or not...

I've never used the Bamboos, but I have an Intuos 2 at work, Intuos 3 large at home and just snagged an Intuos 4 wireless on Macmall.com for $230. It was refurbished, but it looked brand new when it came and it seems to work great so far. It's also perfect size for laptop bag and 15" Macbook. :)

Anyone know where I can host my pics with right click protection and the option to buy just a digital copy? While I'm out shootng I'll have random people ask me to snap a photo and send them a email. I ususally do it, but it's happening more often and I'd like to start making a bit of money for wear and tear on the shutter, lens cost, car, gas. Nothing big, just a bit of change inmy pocket, but if somone wanted a photo for their FB page or whatever I'm sure if I gave them a link where they could get a FB quality pic for 3-5 bucks I'm sure I could start making enough money for gas on my outings. Also, a free hosting site that only charges you a percentage based on what was sold. Anything like that?

I have SmugMug Pro right not and I know it's in there, but I'm not sure at what level it starts, it could be in all of their packages or just Pro. Their customer service people are awesome though, I'm sure you'd get an answer pretty quick if you asked them. The only downside to SmugMug is that they recently upped their prices and not just a little. I'm having a hard time deciding if I want to stick with them because I barely made enough on there last year to pay the bill at the end of the year and this year it's $100 more. :( Maybe that should be a kick in the pants to get me motivated to sell more! ;)
