First shot gave me a idea, second shot gave me practice and now I think I know what I want from the third shot. I'm going to go up the mountain in the left of these pics and shoot across towards the peak and the north star. Hopefully I'll get the north star right above the peak. I'll also be going up way later around 1 a.m. so I don't get as many cars blowing out the road, plus I'll have the moon behind me and lighting the entire mountain. The first shot I was up a bit later and had more moonlight, so hopefully the moon will be a bit higher after midight. Any thoughts on making this pic work that I might not have thought of?

If you look closely at the white circles, they look like sliced onions.

yeah, I ditched mine. The previous version remapped video to be on the 60D "C" and loved it - but the new one does not, as apparently it was an unstable option. I didn't really use anything else... Ditto for CHDK on my G12, I don't use any of it, although I do have a script that loads flash TTL in M mode which could be handy, so I've not ditched it yet...

Hey Vinz, I think I'm going to stick with the gear I have now because I don't really have much money :( bad timing with Vegas and all. Thank you for holding it for me, though!

No problem Maria. Thanks.

Here's an example of some onion balls:

https://photography-on-the.net …p?p=14483832&postcount=76

https://photography-on-the.net …?p=14539886&postcount=104

Like I said though, it's a great lens and all and it's my own personal preference if the onion balls matter to me or not. Don't let my judgement scare anyone else away from the lens, it's obviously 2x better and sporting the famed VC where Canon didn't put IS on their II version. I shoot mostly 80% of the time wide open so I'll be seeing bokeh and prefer the creaminess ...of course it's the reason I bought the 85L II. I would still rate the lens 9/10 in my books, the only complaint from me, the onions.

EDIT: And just saw this link on the forum...the Canon 24-70 II has some onions too..no me gusta.

Wow that is some funky bokeh. It's pretty cool how the mechanical parts of a lens can have such a significant effect on the image.

Russ, I like the processing you did with the deer. It works great for that picture well done sir.

DR. D, are you using one long exposure for the star trails or stacking them? I like stacking I use the free program at http://startrails.de/html/software.html (external link), this one is 160 shots stacked. I like the car trails at the s bend if you get get the first and second shots combined it will be awesome!

Wow!! Kevin those are fantastic!! I hope you be printing these?

Thanks Mircom! I have several pictures I want to print, but I'm having trouble deciding how to do them. The ones I've been doing have tons of glare on the glass, so I need to either look into more expensive non glare glass or do some canvass prints. Anyone have any input?

I prefer canvas or a matte finish print so you don't get the glare especially behind glass.

Great startrails guys! I did some a very long time ago with my SX20is but haven't tried them with the 60d yet. Maybe tonight is the night I do that. lol

Kevin when you do the multiple exposures are you just sitting out there clicking the shutter button every 30 seconds or is there another way to do that? With my old SX20is I had CDHK on it and just opened the shutter for 15 minutes or whatever. The problem was it got real noisey and I suspect it may not have been so great on the sensor.
