Was out doing some night shots and light painting with a group the other night. After it was over I ran into this guy in the middle of the night bouldering. I asked to snap a few pics if I sent him some and he agreed. It was fast, super dark and was on the way out, so didn't have very long to get everything perfect. I had to dodge a lot of places around him, so I'm not way happy with it, but it's been blowing up on my FB page so thought I'd share.

A lot of depth in this shot. It really draws you into the picture. A good range of grays and then that stark, pure black and white detail that you just have to stare at.

I'm thinking a cover for a Stephen King novel.

hi guys, after 17 days in the Intensive-care unit, I'm happy to be back home. I still have a lot to heal but so happy to be home. You wont be seeing photos from me anytime soon but I will be a bit more active here. :D

If it were me I'd do a self shot everyday and then do a timelapse once you're up and going again. Get well soon!

Russ, I like the processing you did with the deer. It works great for that picture well done sir.

DR. D, are you using one long exposure for the star trails or stacking them? I like stacking I use the free program at http://startrails.de/html/software.html (external link), this one is 160 shots stacked. I like the car trails at the s bend if you get get the first and second shots combined it will be awesome!

That's what I'm using. I'm figureing it was really blown out due to so many cars stacked, so it looks like I'm going to have to do it way late when there is hardly anyone coming through the canyon.

So I did some test prints with my Pro9000 II and my recently calibrated monitor... the final print is really off from what I see on screen. On screen the photo is washed out and bright, and maybe has a slight yellow cast to it. Any tips? Would I just need to re-calibrate?

P.S. Glad you're back home, Alex :) I'll continue to keep you in my thoughts and prayers!

Thanks for the warm welcome guys. I posted this on my flickr with a little back story to what is going on.

IMAGE: http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8180/8048543654_3379775437_c.jpg

My Road To Recovery

On Saturday, September 15th; I was involved in a very horrible propane accident that lead to a fire that burned 25% of my body. I had 1st, 2nd & 3rd degree burns all over my legs, arms, hands and a little bit of my face. While I won't post specific details of the accident itself, I will tell you the incident was a complete freak accident and is still under investigation. I was sent to the Trauma/Burn ICU at the University of Colorado Hospital where doctors and nurses worked every day to help manage the pain and recover from the horrific burns. For the most part, I was in good spirits, but it was a constant battle between pain, boredom, depression, and more pain. After 17 days I was told that I was ready to come home where I will continue to recover and heal.

I now sit here and think about how we are nothing in this world and in just a matter of seconds everything can change in matter of seconds.

I want to thank the Lord who kept me strong and gave me the wisdom to get to where I am now. My beautiful wife stayed strong and kept me in good spirits no matter what. My wonderful family was always there for everything. My amazing friends went out of their way to make sure I was okay and had everything I needed. My doctors, nurses, and all of the hospital staff made my stay more comfortable and made sure I was pain free. From the bottom of my heart; I want thank all of those who sent donations, prayers and wishes my way. Thanks to those of you who stopped by the hospital and for the gifts, flowers, hugs, kisses, and great company. I can honestly say, I couldn't have done without you! You're all AMAZING!

I ask you to keep praying for me and to keep me in your thoughts as my recovery is still underway. I hope to get back to my regular life and soon to be back behind the lens and bring you more amazing photos.

Once again, thank you everyone for everything and may God bless you all!

Alex

I want to see how our bodies heal. I vote timelapse or your body rebuilding itself, plus give you something to shoot and can come back later in life to see how far you've come.

I vote - 'post a link' ;)

Alex - prayers are with you and I'm glad you had such support. If anyone has ever received a little burn in the kitchen - you know that little burn can 'sting like the dickens' for quite a while... so amplify that to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd degree burns to 25% of your body - and yeah - I say Alex's spirits are Very Commendable during his ordeal...

Cheers Alex!

Well here goes nothing. It may be as simple and logical as having to recalibrate. But did you calibrate your monitor to your printer's output, or to some other standard? I'm assuming you're using Canon's inks and papers. Did you set the printer's profile to match your paper?

Don't worry... I'm sure if I'm taking the wrong approach here someone will straighten us both out.
