Going through my photos from the walk around the lake yesterday... I am just awful at shooting in manual mode. lol. I'm usually in Av mode while on walks so it was tough trying to figure out the right exposure for everything (have to shoot in manual for my photog class). Hopefully I got something... Just watch your light meter and practice at the thumb wheel and that wheel by the shutter button to move either your shutter speed or aperture...Just center up the meter and shoot. If you put your aperture where you want it, just use the shutter wheel to move the meter indicator, it's almost like shooting in Aperture Priority. 5D | Full tank of gas | Box of rocks

That's how I think of it when I shoot anyway...Helped mah brain. Yeah I know how to meter but we have to take photos via exposure compensation using the Sunny 16 Rule as a base, so having the meter be in the center wasn't always the correct exposure. Sometimes I'd forget to switch if all of a sudden we walk out of the shade into bright sunlight, or stuff like that. Just lots to think about while walking around in such a light-changing environment! I also think I was ovr-complicating things by thinking about the numbers too much (especially when ISO became involved), and trying to keep my shutter speed at 250 (to get my boyfriend and dog walking), and things like that. I did do a ton of bracketing though so I think I saved a few shots. Maria, Mars, or Marzy. Flickr.

Tod your up first for your Birthday (CC always welcome, the good the bad & the ugly) I think this is perfect the way it is. I just got back from hanging out with my friends and they were downing Shiner with blazing hot wild wings! LOL MARSURAT1 wrote in post #15081799 Yeah I'm getting a little annoyed but I'm learning a lot by shooting in manual and learning the correct exposures for certain things. On a sunny day you shoot at ISO 100, f/16, 1/125. Certain things like objects in shade, neon signs, etc. require +/- a certain number of stops. I do think I made it more difficult for myself because I was paying attention to numbers more than the meter; I think that's where the constraints and book mumbo jumbo started to confuse me and get to my head. I hear of this rule a lot of course I never followed it...LOL I'm actively lazy!!

I'm not a fan of it because I think it detracts from creativity, but exposure compensation rules are really helpful though, I just need to get the numbers out of my head. Maria, Mars, or Marzy. I ultimately want these two good lens. I currently have 18-135 sell 50 1.8 keep 85 1.4 sell 8mm fisheye sell I want a sigma 17-55 2.8 and some wide angle lens.. I'm conflicted with the wide angle. I'm thinking the canon 10-22 or the tokina 11-16. 2.8 sounds nice with the tokina but don't think it's necessary for wide shots . Looked threw both threads at there pics n they both are fantastic.. Was also considering the 17-40L but not sure how wide that would be. Considering the L for the reason of maybe one day goin full frame... Anyone on here have these lens n can give me a bit of advice? Greatly appreciated For the wide angle, get a Sigma 10-20 if you are solely gonna use it outdoors and don't need the f/2.8 aperture~ I'm actively lazy!!
